VLC and codecs?

I'm using W7 64bits, and do I need to use codecs for VLC to watch 1080P in a better quality?

And how do I add subtitles for VLC?

this doesn't work but after hardwork of googling i found i can just drag the sub to the vlc window and it's fine

it worked on mpchc and mpc but somehow not on this
not a big problem still wondering if i need codecs, since the picture doesn't impress me

and i searched if vlc was avi for ipod/iphone, but it isnt cuz apple doesnt allow other programs then quicktime.

so it cant even be for ipad

mpc HC? or the normal one from windows default
windows default = nice player but doesn't play all formats
mpcHC = awful, it renders extremely slow at my pc for some reason ( has to be a bug or settings but can't find) while mpc and vlc plays the file just fine with the same quality

I meant HC. Works perfectly on my PC. But VLC isn't bad, I used it quite a lot in the past :P Maybe try to install coreavc 2.0 codecs (they're not free, but easily you can find torrent for it)

did a small research, and apparently, MPC HC has it's only codecs, which mean your coreavc are useless and does nothing
just saying...
the coreavc does looking promising, however ive no idea what program to use with it
