No... just... no. FLAC is not needed for most people, really only if you doing any kind of compression/splitting (eg: fragmovies), burning audio CDs or if you have a VERY high end audio system. You and your cheap headset have no benefit by listening to FLAC, you are just seriously wasting harddrive space.
Unless you have a decent DAC, some alright amps and also a nice set of speakers or headphones on top of that then no... V0 mp3 is more than enough for casual listening.
uncompressed/lossless is _ALWAYS_ higher quality than any lossy format like .mp3. but its a priory question when i use spotify it automatically syncs with my phone and i don't need an extra harddrive for all the music i wanna listen to but my favourites i have in Flac. One reason i use spotify instead of grooveshark is that spotify i always is CDrip HQ mp3 grooveshark is like youtube almost always different LQ .mp3s.
my home soundsystem is somewhere in the middle class and i hear the differences between a 320kbit/s mp3 and flac or some other high quality stuff. Aswell as on my sennheiser hd 555 (and its not just me).
2 or 3 weeks ago we had some 1hour tutorial about new pa-systems from denon/jbs and even with their middle class PA-systems there was a clear difference.

But you don't though... you just think it's better because of placebo. In blind listening tests I guarantee that you wouldn't be able to differentiate between the two.
I have great hearing and my current pair of cans are audio technica AD700s. Admittedly I don't have a dac or headphone amp and listen from my soundcard. I'd been told by many people that FLAC offered no real listening advantages over mp3 and I wanted to see if this was true. I got someone to give me blind listening tests (this was using a computer hooked up by SPDIF to a home theater system through to my headphones) to see if I could discern a difference between the two.

Even if you want to store/keep FLAC for archiving purposes it is still better to keep your live library in V0 (and if you have the FLACs stored, if you ever lose your library it's pretty simple to convert all that FLAC back to V0, whereas if you lose the drive containing your FLAC from overuse then you're really fucked.)
You're not going to hear a difference between FLAC and 320, stop trying. FLAC is only useful for storage to maintain a perfect copy of the music, 320 or V0 is all you need.

Even if the iPod could play FLAC, the iPod DAC and headphone out jack is not a good enough source to discern the difference between v0 mp3 and FLAC no matter how good your soundsystem or headphones are (and any headphones good enough to notice the difference would probably need a headphone amp)
I'm not sure on this but I think the usb/dock connector of the iPod should output digitally, in which case that hooked up to a dac/amp and then to speakers or headphones could work? I'm only theorizing as I'm not really sure how iPod dock technology works.
The only way to like meez said is to use an amp with the headphones, you can build/buy some fairly small amps that fit in your pocket and work well but largely, any handheld device isn't actually amazing at audio reproduction, though I hear Cowon players are pretty good?
Flac is like "The monster wolverine ultra cable" that only costs 100 more Euros than the regular cable. But in reality you don't hear a difference, but you get that cool monster sticker to put on your forehead!
