a new music player

Since spotify seems to be limiting use for free users, I'm looking for a new music player with a useful playlist/library function, hopefully a bit similar to spotify's,

Aside from spotify, i am currently using foobar2k but i simply have too much music to make this useful. I simply have to scroll way too much to go from one song to another.

would be really nice if i could sort something trough genre or related genres or generate some dynamic-ish playlists which i can manage without alot of hassle.

What music player are you using? and what would you suggest me?

youtube

or learn to configure foobar, it offers variety of extensions.

Mine is pretty modded, but i dont even know how to remove certain albums from current playlists -.-

Its a shame people have turned on spotify like they have, people would have been happier to see them go bankrupt then actually make a change to save themselves.
I still pay for premium!
Parent
I use it as a regular music player, for me it just doesn't offer enough to be worth paying a montly fee for.

I still buy albums to support certain independent artists.

the fucks whining about spotify taking 10€ a month for unlimited music simply dont deserve using spotify...
Parent
Since they seem to pull music from it weekly, it is rather annoying. For example is Alex K remixes... the L'amour song was taken off (the best one), and the same for Big Sky, 112 etc... people moan because what WAS FREE is now NOT FREE. It's like someone taking away your ability to type on your keyboard and then charging you a monthly fee.
Parent
Its an awful business model anyway I'm afraid. I never conformed to using it because I saw this coming.
Parent
Its only 5 euros a month or 10 euros if u wanna be able to listen everywhere its a good fucking deal.
Parent
yea, i actually think that spotify adapts to the new era of music, 5 euros for a really big catalogue its a good deal honestly.
Parent
I have friends who would prefer it if people torrented/stole their music than listened to it on spotify. It's a massive rip-off for artists and it isn't right that they are making money through it:

musicians should make their money out of gigs anyway.

downloading is not stealing anyhow, if your music is being download u should be happy.

gief dl link to ur shoutcast sir, plz!
Parent
do you feel the same way about listening music on youtube? As that spotify figure in your graphic (quite interesting graphic though!) is very similar
Parent
well i don't really know that much about how youtube works but i thought that it was only the bigger labels that are making money from it? (which is still probably not great) as most smaller bands that put their music up there do not have ads or the like

youtube does allow musicians to upload and host their music for free to a wide audience, for most i think this is good, spotify is a little different imo in that their business model is entirely based upon not paying artists for playing their music, quite different i think

I don't have any songs stored on my comp atm, I just use grooveshark, simular to spotify.
nice, its even available in my country, hähä

F3 search??

or have each genre in a different playlist ;/
already have that, but my music collection is just too big for this to work.

i've used fb2k on a library in excess of 30k tracks and it has been fine... what sort of layout are you using? http://tuomas.co.uk/public/foobarlayout.PNG or just a playlist?

about playlists too, foobar does have the ability to create smart/autoplaylists, i have one for unplayed stuff so i can remember what i need to listen to, it would also work for genre and whatnot

QuoteIn foobar2000 0.9.5 or newer, you can create autoplaylists by right-clicking an Album List branch. In order to create a query-based autoplaylist using Album List, use the 'filter' box to enter a query and create an autoplaylist from the 'All Music' item.

i don't think you'll find a better app than foobar, itunes and wmp are both pretty awful at dealing with large libraries

ps: jenny lewis is hot
Parent
currently using image: 351uyop which might look alright, but isn't really all that efficient.

I'll try the layout you sent me, looks pretty solid actually.
but I'm still running an old foobar version, do i need to update?

also, does it run on linux? never tried...
Parent
yeah... newer versions don't have the panels ui but well... they may look good but as you said really unfunctional. this is default user ui with facets + quicksearch, if i remember correctly when you install new versions you get a menu to pick a layout (and you can have genre/artist/album itunes style by default i think)

Free users are going to get limitations. You can play maximum of 5 times each track and 10 hours/month.
Parent
not effected me so far :( will use something else when it does!
Parent
on may the limitations are going to start.
Parent
Listen to good music only and use random = profit.
Grooveshark is really good!

http://listen.grooveshark.com
If you import your own music into spotify, there will be no commercial, even if your not a subscriber. Don't change from Spotify, just import your music :)
Foobar2k is the only thing ive used for years, really customizable and really lightweight (although more comps = higher resources).

Loving the song too dude!

I use Itunes because I have Ipod touch and I really like the program. It is kinda easy to use when you get used to it.

Previously I used Winamp and well now that I think about it... I kinda miss it :D
Same, oh wait.
