Well good moviemakers especially for ET are rare these days.
So please mates, think, read, test first then release your movies to publicity!
Maybe u can follow those little steps to get at least a watchable movie.
All viewers that dont care about gfx and pixelized movies, skip this journal please!
First:
Think about what u really can do and what u cant do.
Do not take jobs from players that are EC / NC skill and who want to see the movie released in the next 2 or 3 months.
If its ok with the player that it can take up to 6 or 7 months so take this job. Learn, practise and talk with other moviemakers about your clips.
Try to start with the basics. Never edit any scenes before you are not sure about your config. Use proper light settings, work with coronas, try to get the right balance between light and colors so it is easier to adjust colorsettings later in your favorite editor.
Plus a big no-go: Do not query MovieMakers and ask them for configs. Normally they will hate u after asking this question.
So now your Config is done, great job! Get started, watch ALL Demos from the player (ofc the player HAS to write all Times and Frags in the Filename. U dont have to do this dear moviemaker. If a player doesnt have time or is not willing to do it, it would be a complete waste of time for u. In this case send him to hell).
Write down every Frag in a TXT or excel file, sort them by frags (spam, smg, xxxxxx) and look what u have most. Some players are really int PF shots or Spam kills. Think how u could edit them (Camtrace or smth (do not overuse cams)). PLUS: U should reject rifle Projects as a starting project. Cause imo rifle kills are the most "hard to edit Frags". How can u keep the tension with smg kills only? Focus on that question, youll soon get the idea u need.
Make something like a storyboard, or UML graph. For Zaigon i have 12 sites of storyboard which will be released with the movie. Make yourself clear how the movie shall be. Agressive, chillout, or any other mix... Then ull have to focus on musics. I will NOT write anything about musics here cause this is always very personal. BUT: do not fear to use musics what have been there before. All those "nerds" falming u with overused musics and stuff are just unknown ppl who didnt get the point in reusing old stuff and makin it in a better way like it has been done before! (Yes hate me for that sentence).
Now we got all clips captured + we got the musics. Go ahead with cams. Listen to the musics, close your eyes and think about the frags where u planned to implement cams. Now u should see the cam in your eyes. TRY to convert them to ET. Thats all the magic. If its not workin for u, just keep on trying and praccing. Ull get known to it and sooner or later itll be routine.
K we got all we need for the editing. Start with the Storyboard. Put frag after frag to the timeline. Once that is done listen to the musics again and try to sync as much as possible! Sync is soo immense important. Now after that step add effects and stuff. BUT try to do your own effects. Dont bother the audience with vegas effects :)
Up to the Intro:
Just one sentence: Be creative
Up to the Outro:
Well all the standard shit + Just one sentence: Be creative
Plan the movie @ about 14-16 minutes. I bet itll get boring with longer Movies...
Thats it for me again.
Hope it helped some of u, if not feel free to ask.
Hannes
PS: Ofc my english sukkz, do not consider flaming on it

#moviemakers.et
thats almost 2 years ago or what? lol!
yes 1year and 10month :D
1. Watch Ganons new movie.
2. Copy it 100%
3. ?????
4. --> Profit.
Seriously, we have seen the Vegas special effects like thousands of times now : (
Also great piece of text hannes;)
n1 hannes <3 keep the good work.. and MOVE we are waiting for ZAIGON!
ps: nice "tutorial" for newbies.. is nice for get the first ideas...
ps2: edit this and send to tutorial page in xfire
But thx
Of course it's amazing to watch "professional" looking movies, but it's also nice to have variety and different kind of clips (ganon as example), in my opinion there should be a bit of everything, and that's why you can't blame the maker if his movie is not even close to a shaolin (just as example) one.
I love you for that sentence :)
Nice collection of your thoughts.
PPLLLSSSSSS
BUT: if one wants to do a short fragmovie, in which he shows hes best moments etc. etc... configs should be more like ingame and there must be hitsounds etc to make it feel like ingame. Also one has to keep random vegas-effects out of that movie becouse those often ruins the whole video. (example: Souvenirs, lots of q3-movies)
Ofc one can still have a great movie by just adding mp3's to frags. (example: Truedestination, MamaRosa's Revenge)
