Laptop no longer connecting to inet

I'm a complete newb with terminology so go easy in the replies. I have 3 setups connected to my internet, my pc and two laptops. One of the laptops is not connecting to the internet, even though it displays as being connected. I tried all the basics, restarted my router, virus scan etc, disconnected, reconnected, but still no luck. Initially, it was just google chrome that was having issues, but now there is no connection whatsoever. Any ideas? Will a format work?

my pc -> properties -> hardware

i don't know if it says what they are over there but u might give it a try.

did you check if it probably just has some bollox proxy entries?
(guess you mean by "no internet connection" "via browser" and not at all? or also for any other application?)
I know what you mean, but no, it is set to automatically detect. No connection at all from the programmes I tried...
Parent
but got connection to any other device on your lan?
Parent
Yes, my desktop and my bro's laptop are fine
Parent
i mean from the laptop you get no internet connection with. if you can still get a connection to a) the router and b) any other computer on the lan

I did try, but I am a complete retard when it comes to tech stuff. I plugged my cable from my PC to my laptop but still no connection, not sure if I did it right though. Should it pick up the cable straight away like wireless? It didnt work anyway.
Parent
well it should, yes. but what i meant is if you open "start->run->cmd" and type "ipconfig" when connected with cable, do you get an IP-address?
or maybe also when trying wireless. if yes go to "start->run->cmd" again and type "ping <insert ip-address of your router>" (without the "" and <>, which should work just fine then (if you use DHCP and not static ip-addresses and after that try an IP-address of any pc on the lan instead too)

Ill try cheers

Win7 and wifi or cable?
win7 and wireless
Parent
try going to network and sharing center -> change adapter settings and check if Local Area connection is disabled (I had same problem if Local Area con was enabled but not connected)
Parent
Now you got a good reason to format, it is nais :) Lazy way would be system restore. Also, have you tried manually reseting the router, there should be a button for it somewhere.
Yes, I tried that too, no joy. Its my parents laptop so a format would be fine I suppose
Parent
I'm afraid you'll have to buy a new laptop.
re-activate the wifi button on your laptop? happened to me first time i had my computer and had no idea how to fix it
Not sure how
Parent
depending on the model it probably has a switch at the front or maybe a touch field just below your bottom screen above the key board? or at the sides maybe a switch (?!)
Parent
Ill check when Im home and keep you updated, cheers
Parent
Does it not work with both Ethernet and Wireless?
Doesnt seem so
Parent
I'd say the switch thing suggested above is most likely, however if this doesn't work.. format would probably be a good solution.

if you don't have a router of your own, it's possible your isp only allows a certain number of connections at the same time.

my isp only allows 2 at the same time, so when my pc and laptop are connected, it's impossible to surf with a 3d device (mobile, laptop, pc,...). it connects to the wireless, but it doesn't obtain an ip etc...
Its only a recent problem though, never had it before. Also tried using the laptop on its own.

on your laptop:

vista/7 -> network and sharing center -> adapter settings -> choose your adapter -> right click -> properitiers -> tcp/ipv4 -> configure -> set everything on automatic & check validate settings on exit -> exit

or if everything is set to automatic already, enter some random IP, exit / reboot, change it back to automatic exit/reboot.
If its cable it should work without a problem, if ur on wifi tough it might be the security inside your router like MAC adres security.
how you doing honey?
