For people that play RtCW and have had problems connecting since yesterday (Client_Unknown_To_Auth) and that was the majority of players, here is a fix for that issue.
Open a command box (start, run and type cmd) so you get the little black box up.
Type: ping wolfauthorize.idsoftware.com - wait for results.
Now it came back to me with 100% loss and the IP it pinged was 199.107.64.171
Now this was tried from somebody else and their results came back with: 192.246.40.70 and thats what it should be.
It looks like idsoftware have been messing about with their DNS and broke some thing, so a work around to allow you to connect is...
Go to My Computer, open your C drive, scroll down to System32 and double click (open the folder) then scroll down to a folder called Drivers. Open that folder then look for a folder called 'etc' now in there you will see a file called 'hosts', open that with notepad.
Now go to the bottom of all the txt you see, start on a new line and type: (or copy/paste) 192.246.40.70 wolfmaster.idsoftware.com wolfauthorize.idsoftware.com
Save that file and thats it done, you can now connect to all servers again.
192.246.40.70 is the original IP that has been there for years, they have obviously messed about with some thing and cocked it up. Hope fully it will stay with this original IP. I know it's a bit of messing about but really isnt so hard to do this, hey, even I managed it !!!
I know this wont interest most people on this site but I thought I would write this for those few that still play and enjoy RtCW.
