China Attack

Hello Crossfire, how do you do?

I got hacked, and this is actually the second time someone is trying to access my google account!

Has anyone else had this mail? Is it truly from google or is it a scam to phish?
Weird thing is that both locations are like 1000km from eachother

Have a nice day <3

QuoteUnknown attackers are attempting to persuade email recipients to open attachments that contain a trojan by claiming to be from The Google Accounts Team. A new email supposedly from "[email protected]" with the subject "Suspicious sign in prevented" is being sent en masse claiming that a hijacker has attempted to access the mail recipient's Google Account. The message says that the sign-in attempt was prevented but asks users to refer to the attached file for details of the attempted intrusion.
However, instead of containing information such as the IP address of the log-in attempt, the attached zip file contains a Windows executable file that will install a trojan onto a victim's system. While Google does sometimes send emails like this to users, they never contain attachments; users that receive such an email are advised to delete them. According to VirusTotal, the trojan is currently only detected by just half of 42 anti-virus programs used by the online virus scanner service.
There ain't no attachment

just delete the email and dont click on the links and you will be fine:p
and it wouldnt hurt to change your password in case you did click on any of the links.
Parent
The link actually links to what it says, support.google.com
This is so confusing

probably the best thing to do is to go directly to gmail/google and change your passwords just in case, on google ''discussiongroups'' there are loads of these topics and most of them are saying it is a scam/fake.
Parent
Yeh, did that
Parent
Though
QuoteI am the Gmail Community Manager, and I can confirm that we do send email notifications in certain cases such as described here.

Always carefully check the URL and never enter your Google password on a page that is not hosted at google.com. For example, it is OK to enter your password at https://accounts.google.com or https://mail.google.com, but not gooogle.com, g00gle.com, etc.

[email protected]

they are becoming good, with that domain i would thought that it is from google itself

which it is, they are demonstrating their will to take on all information regarding ur life so they can sell it later
They can forge the adress anyway. Want to get a mail from me from the presidents email?:D
Parent
You can send an email with whatever domain you want.... you don't need to own it, but of course, good services will warn you it isn't trust worthy...

Yh happened to me like 3 times too. Chinese fuckers.
Just make sure when you hover over the links it goes to google.com
Same happened to me 2 weeks ago. I was able to recover the account and changed the password...
It's legit lol, it doesn't tell you to go to a random site and type your password, it tells you to do it via gmail and only provides a "how to reset password"-link.
Just wondered if I was the only one; as I have a kind of complicated password.

well so much for my disguise :<
you shouldnt have opened the email, i had this a few months lemme explain you what to do to:
If you opened the email and now you go for example to any website and in the webrowser if you see on left of where you type the URL lets say google icon (those little icons near the url) you are ok, but if you see a blank page as icon on left of the url means you are infected. First, dont change your password from that same browser, do it from another computer if possible, then just delete and set as spam those emails, you should make a strong email filter, delete and reinstall your webrowser, since you dont have a virus dont worry but its some sort of plugin that runs on the tabs of your webrowser, say it is some sort of webbrowser malware..
if you often receive random mails (not in spam) but some slip into your inbox (and you happen to open them) its as easy as that to get infected, dont even have to download any attachment, some of these emails can come even from people you know that got infected with simple subjects. So if thats the case you need to improve your email and system security, seriously you should. Maybe is not Kenzis case but this useful too

please explain to me the mechanism by which reading a plain text email in your web browser can expose your account?

this article doesn't support your statement
Parent
i think its possible tough. Email can be written in html and so it could include same shit you get from visiting a waressite. aka installing plugin etc
Parent
