Problem opening video files

Basically, when i try to open video files in programs like vlc, media player classic, winamp etc. The music will play but the video wont load, and my computer will just go really really slow, and it either takes like 15 mins to close the video or i have to reboot :<, cant play fragmovies etc. I have the latest klite codec pack so i've ran out of ideas, this problem only started like a week ago.

any ideas?

edit: i installed a new gfx card like a week back ( GeForce 7800 GS OC ) could this have anything to do with it?

just use vlc, delete klite codec pack
