FPS Lags

I am playing ET after a 6 months break but I'm still anoyed by this thing called FPS. I am aiming for 76 stable, and imho I should be able to get that. Though in a 6on6, I have drops to like 30-40 drops all the time, and even got some drops to like 5-10 at certain points. This varies a lot per map, and per spot in the map...

Config

My Nvidia driver settings are the same as the one in the FPS tutorial by hYpe as well as the cvars mentioned there.

I have cleaned up my PC very recently, and defragmented
I didnt use any DirectX tweaks and i didnt overclock my PC.

Any ideas would be welcome :)

That's the main problem. Since you have a "good" processor (athlon 2400 @ 1.8 Ghz?), you might wanna try overclocking the video card.

Riva tuner can do the trick, but use it only for overclocking, not for taking away textures! (razz issues)

Maybe it's the servers causing the lag... I have lag too sometimes, especially when infights start. Not allways, but sometimes. When I close mIRC it's allready better btw..

ye it starts when I get hit or start shooting most of the time. but also in goldrush when I run near ammo/health shack i go down to 40fps even when im alone on server

I had that too with the fx5200, and I had a 1.2 Ghz processor back then. On grush I had 35 fps on busy parts (in front of the bank it was 40) On radar I used r_mode 3 to make it playable, other maps r_mode 4.
But Bern, old clanmate, had even worse card (gf4200ti) but a better cpu (2 Ghz pentium) and he used riva to get a nice steady 76 fps @ r_mode 4.

heh I looked at your cfg (etmain) and you might wanna try:

r_colorbits "16"
r_texturebits "16"
r_picmip "3" to hide the uglyness of the above mentioned settings

This combination adds more then a few fps, depending of system ofc.. Try it!

Your specs are quite bad but you should be able to 76 stable, My previous PC was just a little bit better and i had pretty much 125 fps stable on all maps(some drops on radar). You maybe have some virus i think. dunno rly :/
