duh, i prefer 7.5 rather than live messenger, that's why i asked if there was any other solution

the appearance for one, i use aero msn and i find it much more comfortable. + with live messenger u get all those colours and stuff in the nicks, i hate them, and the 8.0 used to give me trouble, that's why i switched to 7.5

Solution:

Ran into the same issue tonight. Here's a way around it...

1) Quit your MSN
2) Right-click the MSN Messenger program icon and choose "Properties" (from your Programs Files/MSN Messenger folder)
3) Click the "Compatibility" tab
4) Check option "Run this program in compatibility mode for..." and choose "Windows 2000" in the pop-up below.

There you go, it'll allow you to sign and and continue using it! Only catch is the icon in the system tray is a little funky looking since it's dithered colors, but otherwise it works just like it did before.
