i flew to greece this autumn and i did have my passport with me but didnt need it as they accepted my finnish ID card

Holland is in the are of that contract, wich means a finnish citizen wont need a passport there, only normal ID. But most of the time they still ask it tho.

12 of the 15 'old' EU states are part of the Schengen zone which means u can travel with just your ID within these countries. UK isn't in it but Finland and Sweden are so Decem can just travel with his ID.

Going to Scotland from Germany doesn't require a passport, id card is enough (at least until May this year).

you cant ask for a temporary replacing travel document? if you have registered your lost/stolen passport to the police, you can ask for a document that allows you to travel. i think you only need a new photo, an old id card/drivers licence, copy of your police report that sais it is stolen blabla...

ID will do the job as both countries are at EU for quite a long time....

So I guess you can use both ID or driver's license to travel from Finland to Netherlands (both schengen countries). Maybe they can act a bit difficult if u only have a driver's license but normally they should let u go through.

next problem is, the flight is issued to my old name as thats what I have in my passport. my drivers license has my current name :p

Well I think u'll need some kind of proof that u changed your name in the past (so that they certainly know its you). I take it that u changed your name @ your local council. Maybe they still have some documents about that or maybe u still have yours? If not, I fear they won't let u go through.
Maybe if there is only a small change of your name + on both ID & driver's license there is a recent pic maybe u got a change but I wouldn't bet on it :).

I have to say I travelled a lot between Shengen countries and never had any problems so I don't think they are THAT strict but then again I think I never had any problems so I really can't say if they'll let u go through:)

I have no idea what it's like in Finland, but here in Norway you can get an "emergency passport" if you've lost your passport. It costs just as much as a normal passport, and it only lasts for a week or so :D
