I remember my first touch in napster somewhere around 1998-1999, it was awesome. You could get free Dr.Alban -albums with huge ~10kbit/s speed in our schools PC-class. Then you had to rip them to waw, since there was no mp3-players and burn it to CD, what a process.
Next step was WINMX+ (or what was it), you could download the same file from several users and get over 50kbit/s speeds, damn. Can´t remember downloading movies or series back then, guess I wasn´t too interested about them. Or it would have took like a year per file.
Then came DC++, 2002 or something and connections went up, with good luck you got over 100kbit/s! In 2004 my friend started university and there you could get 1,1mbit/s from innernet-hub, that was so sick.
Things stayed on that point until last summer when I moved to dorm I still live, inner-hub gives me 10-11mbit/s, torrents 2-6mbit/s. And yet I feel empty inside. There is no excitement in downloading anything, it is just too easy. No point to buy bigger hard drive since you can get anything within minutes. Makes me kinda sad.
Enough blab-blab. Any thoughts?
Have a nice weekend!

We had few exchange students from UK in our highschool, for few weeks/months. They were always acting all secret on PC-class, like they were watching porn or smth. Then we one day asked what on earth were they doing. "We are using winmx, but don´t tell anyone." We laughed our asses of, even our teachers were using it. I guess they were little bit slow, there were folders, desktop-icons etc. "We thought it was our little secret :("

It was super duper cool back then just cause it's illegal and I ppl (like me) actually only wanted to test it. dl speed was around 3-5 kb/s most of the time. Cost more electricity til you got a whole album than actually buying it.
napster - webwarez - dc++ - dcc - fxp - sitescene - back to webwarez/torrent
now its completely normal
When I had my first modem ~1996, there was no Napster. Browsed more the ftp servers of RAW Syndicate´s Site, then later edonkey. It was so amazing when you finished your 300 MB download after 3-4 days @ 56k, which let the telephone bill explode and my parents rage epically, and then a winzip error message popped upped saying half of the archives are damaged during downloading :))
this shits from before the internet really existed, bulletin board systems and whatnot
current:
utorrent, rapidshare/megaupload/megashares... etc.
Yes its too easy to download, but need big hard drives after downloading too much stuff in 720p and 1080p.. :(
