SC2 & COD7 Release dates

image: starcraft_2_logoStarcraft 2 has been in private beta for a couple of months now and is finally ready for shipping! The Blizzard CEO has stated July 27th will be the release date for the anxiously awaited sequel.

Blizzard stated:

""We've been looking forward to revisiting the StarCraft universe for many years, and we're excited that the time for that is almost here," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "Thanks to our beta testers, we're making great progress on the final stages of development, and we'll be ready to welcome players all over the world to StarCraft II and the new Battle.net(R) in just a few months."

The beta has been welcomed widely by those playing it, with many old Starcraft players and eSports fans lapping up the sequel as opposed to many FPS sequels which have fallen on deaf ears. The game however is unlikely to be welcomed by the Korean Starcraft Pro's - due to ongoing arguments with KeSPa, Blizzard has not issued the organisation with a license for Starcraft 2 and as such both its leagues and the countries top teams and players will not playing it.

Activision may be getting sued by former infinity ward workers due to unpaid royalties, but the company still has other eggs on the Call of Duty stove and plans to release installment number seven this winter.

The game titled, Call of Duty Black Ops developed by Treyarch will be released on the 9th of November this year and follows on with Activisions promise to publish a new CoD game each year. Players take the role of a Black Ops operative who will be involved in missions behind enemy lines. Missions will take place in a variety of locations, including Cuba, the Arctic, and Vietnam. :( shame but im sure it can be sorted out, would be kudos for Blizzard to have their new SC game accepted by the biggest scene for it

well most FPS sequels have been crappy.....just look at ETQW, Wolfenstein 2k9, MW2, UT3... CounterStrike Source and Team Fortress 2 have gone down pretty well because they (like SC2) have stayed fairly true to the original ideas & structure behind them
belive me, this sc2 rocks! i have played it and i liked every game! especially there is no whining about cheaters/nubs e.g. at all.

no whining about cheaters/nubs doesnt make a game a good one
Parent
w8, it IS a nice game & there are no whiners :p
Parent
much like if you played jaymod pub you wouldn't see much whine, come to crossfire and there is lots

play sc2 pub and you won't see whine, go to teamliquid and well... ET community has seen nothing like it
Parent
sc2 pub? :D .. yeah, but i know what you mean and i really try to avoid those sites, because i like atm the peacefullness in sc2 :p
Parent
no whining only for the fact that theres no lobbies. if there was a lobby ....

>tfc2

>true to the original ideas

partial credit for saying 'fairly' but :E
Parent
well true but atleast it was made by the original developers with plenty of spam etc... even if conc jumping went :(
Parent
conc skills communities are barely still alive in europe and america, and stuff done now is pretty ridiculous:

sc2 is about as true to the original as wolfenstein is to ET

SC2 will succeed competitively, even though it's a lot easier than BW. Another organization will pick it up in Korea to replace KeSPA.
I want inside information on diablo 3 instead
How could you possibly keep a competitive scene going and/or retain any level of quality when you pump out a sequel each year? I see this trend in more and more games and it worries me.
who cares? they just want the money.

No one will leave CoD4 competitively for a sequel unless they remove the server hosting joke they seem to want to implement on the series now. the SP are always nice anyway so Im happy they are releasing it, not that I will likely buy it ;)

QL + SC2 = IMMA SPRAYING CUM EVERYWHERE
I don't think it is actually smart they keep releasing new COD games as if it is nothing to them. There should be a new COD once every 2 years, once we keep up in this pace it'll soon be once in 6 month..
And for now, people will continue to buy it every release. Licence to print money.

I know its commercial, but Activision doesn't pay attention to the competitive part of games at all - kinda stupid I guess, because LAN's pay huge interest to those games and prize purses are actually quite ridiculous..
Parent
For now the casual gamer can generate a lot more money than the competitive. Simple as, yes it would be great if Activision went back to dedicated servers, provided a promode upon shipping, but they are far from stupid and clearly have their reasons, which I can only assume are to make the game more casual friendly.
