Tutorials
Sup, I was bored and saw the windows pimping tutorial and thought I'd go more in-depth about some stuff. Before you read this tutorial you should have uxtheme patched already, refer to Waki's tutorial.
This tutorial has a fair amount of registry tweaking so before starting you might wanna do a registry backup. However if you follow the tutorial correctly there shouldn't be any problems so don't be scared. There is delicious cake at the end of the tutorial.
Let's begin.
I will take my desktop as reference. I didn't spend much time on it, but it looks nice, clean and it's effective.
First of all the theme I use is Wasabi.
However you should find something that you like, a few minutes ago looking for the theme I use to link it here, I stumbled across this site: http://www.guimods.com/index.php?tag=themes&paged=1
It has awesome visual styles, you should find something suiting there and if you don't, head over to www.deviantart.com
Recycle bin
As you might of noticed (probably not) my 'Recycle Bin' is renamed to 'bin'.
A simple .reg entry will allow you do edit your recycle bin, doesn't matter if you want to delete it, move it or rename it like me, this will help you. Double click the .reg file and press Yes if windows asks you to add this registry entry.
Windows font
To change windows font from the ugly default font to something more smooth, go to your desktop, right click, select properties, go to the appearance tab and press Effects, now change your Font from standard to ClearType.
This fon't might be a bit blurry depending on your monitor, my lcd has sharpen tweaking at the monitor menu and I just upped the sharpen by a notch to make it look prettier.
Shortcut arrows
Ah yes, those pesky little arrows that don't look good.
You can remove them by going to Start > Run and typing regedit
Expand the tree called HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
Find the folder named Lnkfile
Delete the IS_Shortcut key
You might need to reboot for this to take effect.
Icons
Super Tango Patcher icons are awesome and fit with almost any theme. This .exe is an automatical installer so it's easy to install them. There's 4 sets of icons.

Small little tweaks in windows
Changing the icons displayed on the bottom right corner of your screen:
As you might of noticed, my icons are larger than normal. They look better this way imo.
You can get large icons by right clicking on your desktop > properties > appearance > effects > tick 'use large icons' box
Programs I don't use but you might like
ObjectDock, great program that creates a dock where you can place your icons, it has alot of options like changing the opacity, where it's located, etc.
Samurize allows you to make scripts that monitor your computer stats / the song you're currently playing and displays them realtime on your desktop.
glass2k Makes your windows transparent. [Thanks to mythos for mentioning it]

Vista clock for XPl [Thanks to mythos for mentioning it]
Styler [Thanks to mythos for mentioning it]
Winamp skins
Spirit, a great winamp skin. You can find others @ www.winamp.com or www.deviantart.com
EDIT: Forgot to mention, if the skin doesn't look transparent then press CTRL + P or go to Options > Preferences in winamp, find 'Modern Skins' on the left side, click on the Alpha Blending tab and enable it.
