Game On #1.
Adacore
In Game On I'm interviewing people from the gaming community. As we all know this month the Clanbase Eurocups began. That's why I thought it was a good idea to interview Adacore. The Enemy Territory CB Co-Supervisor.
So I woke up early this morning, put on my journalist clothes, and tried to find Adacore. As soon as I joined the Clanbase channel Adacore was there. But... He didn't reply to my journalist charmes.
I kept trying (yes I'm tough), but Adacore didn't reply. Until around 14:00.
I asked him if he had any interest in giving an interview. He agreed with the modest words: "guess I can if you want".
- Hello Adacore.
Hi
- First of all, could you introduce yourself?
I'm a 21 year old student from London, I've been an admin at clanbase for around two years and a cup supervisor for 6 months, as well as helping organise the coverage for ET at gamestv.org.
- What are your interests besides gaming?
Typical student stuff really - besides my course at uni (Chemical Engineering), just going out to the pub with friends and some music and TV.
- Well we all know you as one of the Clanbase ET Crew guys, but what is your ET history as a player?
Well I started playing ET online in October 2003, played on the AiA public server (the same AiA which now provides AiA clanservers for CB EC) and got to know lots of the guys there. One guy there (pDok) decided to start a clan in March 2004, I thought it sounded fun, so I joined. The guys we had in that team (Organised Chaos) were all really nice guys, and committed to improving as a team, so we got better quite quickly and got to the playoffs of the summercup 2004 before pDok had to leave and the clan folded, after that I joined wDw with rG. After 6 months, just when we were starting to look pretty good, it all fell apart. I took a 6 month break from clanned play (did lots of admin stuff, like quakecon), then attempted (and failed) to restart oC before joining a new team a few weeks ago called delite6!
- Could you tell something about your Clanbase Crew mates? Your relationships with them.
Well, all the guys and gals in the crew are really nice people and work really hard to keep the Cups and Ladders at the highest standard possible. Our illustrious leader DoneX does a great job coordinating everything; Thalakos, Nightraver and Toxic Girl are some of the nicest people you could meet and do lots of work to keep things ticking over; Toxic (the baby of the crew!) is now working with Mrozu on the ladders, as well as helping out with cup coverage; and who could forget Angrykid and Lunachick - the sickening lovebirds of the crew, two of the most committed admins
there are, and really nice people, even if their doting does get old rather fast (only joking - the best of luck to them both!)
- Where did you start at Clanbase? As Cup Admin or did you become a supervisor immediatly?
I started as cup admin of course - did lots of adminning for Summercup '04 and Eurocups and Opencups in the next two seasons before going to admin at the ET LAN tournament at QuakeCon in Dallas over the summer of '05. After I got back from there, I successfully applied to join the crew.
- What's your favorite ET moment?
Ooh - the first Eurocup XI final between u96d and Parodia was the most exciting game I've adminned and really got my interest in ET going again (even the full holds were exciting!).
- And as a player?
Beating Poland with team UK to progress to the semi finals in NC VIII, I guess.
- What if: Tomorrow someone offers you to make all your dreams come true, but in return for that, all your memories will be lost and you won't see or speak to any of your ET friends anymore? Would you accept the offer?
Being rather obsessed with ET, a large number of my personal dreams involve it and the friends I've made while playing, so without a shadow of a doubt no - I wouldn't accept.
- How would you describe the things Gamestv.org does for the gaming community.
Gamestv.org is a wonderful resource for the community - there is really no other game in the world that provides anything like the coverage we are able to give to ET. Hopefully the other communities will also realise this and sign up to the site as well so we can provide first class coverage for all the top games.
- Last question: Did you ever thought of quitting ET?
A couple of times I've thought of quitting - last year after wDw died and I had my exams coming up is probably the closest I've come, but I was never really serious about it. Only thing I can really see making me quit is if another game comes out which I consider better.
- Thanks for your time Adacore. Good luck with the rest of your ET life.
Thanks - and the same to you
Well that was Adacore, hope you've enjoyed it.
Next week, I'll try to take a shot at the Reason Gaming Manager: rG.
Known for running the uQ team in it's first days. And offcourse his time in team uK.
Cya then.
