Hello, and welcome from Rotterdam! Early morning starts all round as myself, [flag=0] fusen and unblind met bleary eyed at Stanstead airport, and somehow managed to stumble our way to the correct gate and board our plane.
After some crazy aerobatics consisting of rapid climes and way too tight turns, our eyes finally set upon the land of the clog and windmill, and my god how flat it all is! The tallest hills are speedbumps, and that is no exaggeration. Finally having got our bags... fusen's came about 5 minutes after the rest off the plane's, we met up with resident dutchie levi, whose voice sounds nothing like the squeaky thing we hear on vent. He led us to a bus whilst not sounding too sure if he knew if it was the right one, and the plan of hurling money at the driver somehow seemed to work. Using only a vocabulary consisting of "hoi", "dank u", "kanker" and "noob", we were on our way!
Bus ride ends and we jump off, suitcases under arm. Levi by his own admission has no sense of direction, so we litterally walked in circles for about 30 minutes, passing the TGS 3 times on the way. When the countryman finally realized his mistake, we learnt it opened at 11.00am, 15 minutes away. Just as we decide to go get grub, a gamerd00d walks up, joint in hand, and Dom Jolly accent. "You play the guild wars?", he questions. "Err, nah, Enemy Territory". "Yesh I like the guild wars a lot too yes". Cue 20 minutes of fusen talking to him about FPSgames, and him obviously absorbing it all, as when we walked off he ventured a, "see you pro guild wars players hehhee". Riiight.
Off to McD's, then the hotel. Its basic but it will do, I have a double room (1 bed) with stewie who will arrive soon, and fusen is actually in a broom cupboard (and paying more for it!). Yep the owner is pretty hot. Levi was clearly blushing at a female presence in the room. I feel sorry for Christa tomorrow, maybe irZ if she comes.
Finally it was off to TGS via the metro, which me and fusen have mastered in terms of tricking the ticket machines... put it in the right way and it doesnt stamp you. Arriving at TGS, we were in time to witness TosspoT crashing his computer after downloading all sorts of ET stuff at 33.3kb/s. The venue is great, has a cool atmosphere and isn't as small as I feared. All the staff ventured how good looking unblind and foonr were.
Some general tips for surviving in Holland:
1) DONT litter. I've already had a 70yr granny threaten me with a stick for dropping a bit of paper by mistake.
DONT pay for the trams... they don't check prices.
DONT let them put mayonaise on your chips.
DONT get in the way of bicyles!!!!!!
DO bring as much of your own hardware as possible, plenty of spending money.
DO get a map before you come, so you don't waste an hour walking around like we did.
DO take the bus from Rotterdam airport if you arrive there, price is 2.50e p/ person.
DONT expect everyone on the street to be high.
For all those that are coming, we hope to see you soon! For those who cannot make it, we hope the coverage will be second to none, even after 3am nights. Take care everyone!
