Here in Enschede the dust has barely settled on day one and day two is not far away from starting. Whilst the RTCW players will get their chance to shine in a five team tournament that prompts memories of the good ol’ days, it will undoubtedly be the shock results of Day one that is foremost in spectators feelings.

The first match of the day saw potentially the biggest upset as Czech side eSuba who were put in the third seed poule beat the shgOpen and Netgamez champions Serious Gaming in convincing fashion. eSuba who have been ever present in the CoD scene and will compete in yet another Eurocup this season will be surprised at how easy they found Serious on valente. Serious were shellshocked until a few stern words woke them to win the remaining to games in their group.

Whilst less of an upset and more of an exhibition of CoD’s strengths, Dignitas, the reigning CPC champions lost to Logitech on matmata. It was an entertaining game won 13-11, and the scoreline in truth could have gone either way. Dignitas aren’t getting downbeat about defeat on a map that they don’t like to call their own, however for Logitech it was an important win.

That win was made ever more important when German side adacom turned up seconds before a forfeit loss was to be awarded against them and took Logitech to the cleaners. It was Valenete that saw the German side race into the lead, they played well and rekindled some former magic to put themselves in a winning position. However the finn’s weren’t done yet and clawed the match back to 12-12 and stave off defeat.

Reason Gaming were to be involved in two thrilling games at the end of the day. They first were torn apart on Toujane by influx gaming before coming back with a vengeance on Carentan against H2k. The win against H2k will shed some sunshine over the shadow that will haunt them for the tournament. That shadow was defeat to influx, who themselves said they didn’t think they’d pick up a win from the group stages. In a group that features Speedlink, the chance was there for Reason to qualify without needing to play the Germans. Victory over influx combined with victory over H2k would have sent the Brit’s through, and the win over top seeds H2k was not difficult. Reason raced into a 10-1 lead on Carentan and from that point on it was just a case of when would it end. It took just enough time for Doekoe and Joepoe to increase their score from just 1 frag between the two of them in eleven rounds, but the fact remains

The ET groups were a little bit more predictable, Dignitas progressed from their group without too much hassle. However their manner was less than convincing, people believed they were beatable before the tournament and that is still the case. The problem is, who and when?

Predictable perhaps for three out of four. However zeroPoint who placed second at shgOpen and Eurocup are all but out of the competition having lost to zerobarrier by four rounds to none. zeroPoint were nothing short of awful for a team with such history and reputation, zerobarrier were irresistible. Zerobarrier have caused a stir in their RTCW and ET history and this was another chapter in their book. Unless zerobarrier beat onesoldier and zeroPoint then beat one in a decider game then they are on their way home!

FF.org went home after losing in a decider match to VAE, it was on round on Supply Depot and was gripping to last as the match went down to the wire. It was the individual performances of VAE with a few individuals stepping up to pick up multi-frags, with Iron a notable name.

Day two is about to kick off, Speedlink versus H2k, Polar vs Impact and the whole RTCW tournament stick out as matches that will add to this list of memorable moments from CPC2!
