GMPO and Vicious and Evil are set to go head-to-head tonight in what promises to be a headlining event of this first day of CDC action. Now that the early games of the day are been and gone, we are beginning to gain a greater understanding of the importance of games, and the form of teams arriving in Enschede.

Whilse GMPO (Game Point OnLine) has already cemented their ambitions with a solid win over talented but perennial underachivers France muse, who often displayed flashes of brilliance but could not link these together to form anything like a comprehensive performance. Nevertheless, a win is a win, and grounded points on the board, in a system which generously allows the top 4 teams through out of a 5-clan group. Of course, we mustn't ignore the fact that the 3rd and 4th placed teams are only put through to the loser's bracket, but GMPO won't have eyes for such a final position now they have recorded their first win.

I caught up with Italy n1ce.it player Austria sick, who offered his insight into a number of key features of this game. n1ce themselves have posted 3 wins out of 3 matches, pushing aside the teams of d&b, overload and iHero, guaranteeing a place in the playoffs tomorrow and making the game against Europe TLR little more than an exhibition game.

n1ce have actually played both GMPO and v&e in online practices, and sick was keen to stress the minimal difference in skill and ability between the two sides. However I of course had to press him, and it appears his slight support lies with, perhaps suprisingly GMPO, who he believes has developed a greater teamplay and understanding between the players. "Vicious and Evil are strong of course, but they are all about aim, and that might not be good enough tonight". However we mustn't understate the importance of what Estonia Holz calls in Estonian "asi on käpas", or being used to your surroundings. GMPO certainly have that after their first game, but v&e are afforded no such luxury, this being their first game in the CDC, especially at such a late time in the day.

This said, the players held by v&e are of undoubted pedigree, and have proven expertise at this level before. A lineup containing names such as Netherlands BuLL, Netherlands teKoa and Switzerland gifty can certainly hold its own, and not just this, they can pose a serious threat to their opposition. However, with GMPO's earlier win and a strong history of teamplay evident, this mule-loving reporter backs GMPO to take this match.
