The QCUP has come and gone and it was a marvelous success! This column is something of a brief summary and mainly a letter of thanks from myself to the crew who ran it.

When CoD4 came I out, I decided instead of doing my uni assignment I'd just waste away playing mix after mix of CoD4 until stupid hours of the day. Whilst wasting away I was determined to get a good opening cup for CoD4 as there was nothing coming from the 'big 2' and an opportunity was knocking. I felt it difficult doing a cup on Crossfire without involving all the games on CF and so the concept was born for a very quick cup before Christmas. Only problem, I wasnt going to be here for most of it as I was due in LA for CGS, so cometh the hour cometh the admin crew who stepped up to enforce my nazi schedule of the cup whilst still making sure the teams enjoyed themselves!

A good cup needed good prizes, and very few marketing organisations truly appreciate the value of a good online tournaments however fortunately the guys at QPAD and Game-Hosting are some of that rare breed. QPAD who were immensely busy with Dreamhack at the time were able to run their booth and listening to a rambling Brit on the phone and Game-Hosting offered us the servers, so we could make sure we gave cash to the top teams but also servers for those coming in the 3rd/4th places.

And so the Crossfire QCUP was born!

1000 new members & 4 million pageviews later the Crossfire QCUP is now concluded with some excellent memories for the communities invovled;

Call of Duty

It was the first cash online tournament for CoD4 and it was a chance to see not only to see how big and popular the game was, but what the competition was like! Throw in a new config and the whine that goes in with it plus the disappointment of some of the 100 teams that we just couldn't fit into the cup and you've a very special blend headed up by Penn and Frop.
The tournament was won by swedish giants EYEballers, who perhaps were more conformtable than they should have been. The French side at least forced them to drop a map point by tieing the first map, something that nobody had done to EYE until that point. EYE overcame 4kings, who were due to play DIE in a run off match for 3rd, but were unavailable. DIE take 3rd and will feel quite upset about their overtime loss to oXmoze in a match that had everything!

France oXmoze
Finland DIE/4K

Enemy Territory

The ET Eurocup brought back some of the games true legends in the shape of aMenti and Idle, however it was their proteges who would upstage them in the two semi finals. TLR overcame aMenti in a namesake grudge match with relative ease and MPG had little problem with Idle in theirs. The final, was a roller coaster with the first two maps contested strongly but very quickly, Supply was unfortunately anything but with MPG just too strong on both attack and defence. This cup headed up by Hentai and Rfki

Quakewars

The Quakewars community has somewhat got itself together in December, with a number of cups and the teams now starting to sort themselves out with lan intentions for CDC4 there is a little bit of stability in the air. Stability but with Dignitas at the top of the pile, some inevitability also, they took an unfortunate default win against Kompaniet. Both sides had looked destined for an epic grand final having proven their superiority in the Semi finals over EYE and 4kings. Thanks to swine and taken for this cup!

Warsow

The game whos LAN scene owes its life to QPAD's QCUP at CDC3 showed once again what it has to offer ahead of its upcoming 0.4 release which is rumoured to include WSWTV. It was CDC3 champion BoBel who ruled the roost once again in a close run tournament! He took the final from Polish sensation V!ct!M, the final everyone was dreaming for was delivered. Thanks to A Spec for heading this one up on his own!
