We are now just a few days away from the Crossfire Challenge 6 and its time to look forward to the an event that always provides drama and excitement!
The drama always starts just before the event as players drop out and teams get denied the chance to go. Who can forget the rewind team of CPC2 who didn’t pay their entrance fee prior to the deadline and made death threats to yours truly. Similarly prior to CC5 the overload who had come 3rd at CDC4 with a great performance were all ejected from the tournament due to being busted. This weekend has seen that same fate fall upon two players from Highbot. The one thing CC6 has missed the pre-event 'see you at LAN' comments!
Each LAN is a proving ground for players who have suspicious pasts, can they perform in a controlled environment Normally the answer is yes. At CPC2 mAus put all his doubters to bed and CC5 was the event that saw a large Polish contingent finally accepted for their undeniable talents. Who at CC6 will move from online to offline? Meez is the most high profile attendee that will be closely scrutinised, he and his team (SNB) have been extremely strong in online competitions since CC5 and will look to use CC6 as an opportunity to prove themselves once and for all. olBaa will also come under the microscope as ButtonBashers have taken a chance on another un-lanned star. So far messrs Winghaven and Clown have had a good eye for unproven talent, will they strike again
The ET action is rarely the soul headline grabber with drinking stories from start to finish. This event proves to be no different as the Dutch are having their Queens day (isn’t that the gayest name for a holiday ever) celebrations from Wednesday to Saturday! Many are arriving early to get a head start on the drinking festivities. One man not allowed to touch the booze is nellie award winner, nellie who after drinking his small body weight in alcohol has vanished from 2 crossfire LANs. The drinking awards are often either dominated by or facilitated by the British. You see we Brit's aren’t good at the playing part, Sheep being the only Brit to win a Crossfire event, however admining, shoutcasting, drinking and pedobearing are traits we are proud of. On the British drinking team (qualified only by stories generated by them) are nellie, herbal & R0SS who across the various events have contributed more in the way of stories than Jesus did to the bible.
Fuelled by drinking poker plays a big part in the success of the Crossfire events. The catalyst to many a story, or in CC5's case the biggest turd in human history is a mainstay at the event. Though there are no cabins for this event for poker to take place at, there will be a tournament each night at wzzrd for anyone wanting to play with the main tournament being at on Saturday with a pot of 150 Euro put up prior to entrance money. If you don’t know how to play you wont be alone and that’s never stopped some people getting in and going a long way in the tournaments.
And then there’s the actual tournament, this years favourites are Mamut who have strengthened their lineup with the addition of Squall to their usual bunch of gaming superheros. An impressive pickup combined with hard work has seen all their peers hide in fear. Which of them may come out of the dark CC5 champions H2k will take some beating after their unbeaten performance last time out. ButtonBashers who have won 2 Crossfire events are starting to come good after a number of roster changes and Impact Gaming have grown in strength and consistency since last time out. SNB as mentioned earlier will need to take to LAN conditions, should they do that then their online form puts them in that chasing pack of 4 teams.
In the words of Battlestar Galatica, all this has happened before and all of it will happen again...namely in a couple days time at the Crossfire Challenge rolls into town!
Crossfire Challenge Roll of Honour (players to win a CC LAN)
Night, ferus, holz, tekoa, urtier, senji; winghaven, clown, david, acozz, maus, doktor; matias, xylos; sheep, iron, toxic, snoop, butchji, abort, dialer, zerender, gifty
