It's a warm summer day and I'm sitting on my couch reading crossfire. I have been reading about the sixth random cup on the website today, when I was wondering how I managed to survive my summer when I was still an active ET player and there weren't cups being held by every second clan. Sure there was the occasional one day cup or benelux cup, but nothing compared to the amount of cups held every day now. Nowadays getting eliminated from one cup means you just sign in for the other cup starting 30 minutes later. People I have never heard of before can fill their achievement page with literally 25 cup wins.

Where is the day winning a cup means you were filled with pride and joy? Where is the day you were actually pissed off when getting eliminated from a cup, because it meant you had to wait another week (or month) for the next one to start? When did we stop caring about using the ladders and instead invested our time in winning cups who mean nothing? I read comments saying winning the OC or EC means nothing, when we used to celebrate and honour people who did this "magical" thing? I think those times, the old times, were better times. This sounds like a rant from an old ET player who's lost his touch (if he ever had one), but it's not. I'm writing this to help you improve ET.

Thousands of columns/journals/interviews have asked this question, how can we make ET better? Is it new maps? Is it antipro? Or is it too late? I say it's not too late, but even if it is I think we should change anyway, because otherwise it might give Wolfenstein a false start. Progression is a good thing, but progress for the sake of progress, must be discouraged. Sometimes you need time to judge a change whether they are for the good or the bad. I think now would be a good time to judge the fact we left behind our ladders and started using quickcups instead. It wasn't a sudden change, but a change it was.

I honestly think it was a bad change, because when we stopped using our ladders we started making our own cups. It started off as one day cups on sunday and it ended in 5 cups a day, because of all these cups we started to forget which of the cups had more prestige than the other. Is winning a one day cup better than winning the ET cup? Is winning the ET cup better than winning an OC division? And all of a sudden we can't see the difference in prestige between the Open Cup and some other randomly organised cup! We stopped caring about our own results! Where is our outrage when we lose in the play offs of the open cup? It's gone because of our own change! Go back now or you will doom Wolfenstein the same way you are dooming ET now! Wolfenstein will never have a chance if will treat it the same way as we are treating ET.

This is how my ET would look like.. I would have ladders, with active admins who know what they're doing. They would have a mappool change every 2 months and thus introducing new maps to the community which they can later on add to their cups who are held two/three times a year (like OC/SC). I would have separate ladders for major countries who have a lot of clans and limit them to the countries (unlike open ladders we've had in the past). I would have one major european ladder which would reflect the ET community, teams that would play in the ladders would have bigger chances to get invited into all leagues (this is the time to act as a community and not as individual organisations). You would want people to be active on the ladder or either hibernate, penalties for those who haven't played for a two weeks (-5 w/e) and/or removal when clans die.

I could go on for quite some time to work this out in details, but I won't because it's boring. I think I've made my point quite clear and I do hope you listen to me because I can't see any other option in making ET a better game and in giving Wolfenstein the best chance of survival in this cruel gaming world! So to CF, what would you like to see CF do? Ladders.
