Now we've seen columns and journals all over crossfire with people wanting to see the revival of the Clanbase ladders but today I propose a different idea .. Crossfire ladders.
Hear me out.. We all know ET was the most fun when there were 1000's of active teams in ladders all competing for the top spot. However, in the last few years, the number of top teams in these ladders has declined. So we ask ourselves, why? Boredom? Insignificance? That's why there needs to be something to play for..
There's no doubt Crossfire has more support than Clanbase and ESL in terms of the etpro community, especially with the more skilled teams. So how about running a ladder after cc7 with active admins throughout the year with something to actually play for? Prizes? Servers? Money? Maybe for cc8 seeding? (instead of the hectic seeding tournament that just happened) or maybe Crossfire can work something out with Clanbase and give the top four spots in the ladder at the end of the season, a direct invite to Eurocup and 5th-8th go into playoffs (like the football leagues).
There needs to be different ladders apart from 5on5/6on6 of course such as the 3on3 ladder. Maybe there can be different days for different ladder matches such as Wednesday = 5on5 night or Thursday = 3on3 night (just not Sunday because most of the officials from other competitions are on this day anyway).
No doubt there needs to be rules added such as you being able to play for only one team in each ladder (you can play for a team in the 3on3 ladder and a team in the 5on5 ladder but you can't play for two teams in the 5on5 ladder or two teams in the 3on3 ladder).
With the support from the top teams for this concept and time and effort from admins and helpers, I think we could all look forward to some great matches on ETTV on a weekly basis (rather than once every 3 months or something).
Idea was brought forward by razz but he can't read or write :(
system6 never plays againts us:(
ET teams aren't stable. A ladder like this could help towards more stability, but it could also miserably fail due to instability. The seeding cup was hectic because it had to be done in 1 month, and if done sooner, it wouldn't be fair since most top teams changed line ups 1 month before the lan.
If teams play an offi a week, it could keep them stable, but they do need something to play for. We only have 1 lan, and that's the only real money-event. So it's logical that teams form before it, and die after it. If we have a ladder or 'champions league' over a whole season, with a substantial prize purse, the top teams will stay active, and that will mean the success of the system. But without the prize purse you can just forget it.
An EC seeding won't matter, if you see previous EC full of mixes, and if for example Blight or Rockit wouldn't participate in this ladder they would still be able to get into the EC without that invite... So you'd have a ladder without top teams. And CC8 seeding spots wouldn't be a good motivation either since the top teams could - just like in the EC - get in there without having to play in the ladder.
So where would you get the money from?
Krosan already pointed out the problem why ladders do not work nowadays. So did I with one or two columns already.
But still our ladders' activity increases constantly and it shows the work pays of somehow. Usually ladders are the base activity of a competetive community whereas in the ESL you'd have Amateur / Pro Series on top of those in the national communities. But that is the next thing ET has left behind ages ago, their national communities. Most of the teams are european just as Crossfire is. Thats a good thing but a bad if you could imagine to have 5-10 ET sections in the ESL with some activity rather than just one european.
dis! :>
those probably bring some money or whateva
when ppl search a offi and when you ask rank they say there rank like 37, then you say your rank and they say to high ranked no thanks...
you play a offi to see where you stand isnt it..
if you win you get +50/80 vs high ranked and if you lose you lose -20 wouw big deal..
D:D:D
ofcourse this concept is not perfect, but its a thought to make sure that people dotn always play against the lower skilled because they dont want to fight better opponents.
and thx for keeping it 5on5 ;)
Perhaps he shouldn't have stayed home from school so often to learn the "mysterious arts of a field ops" then, eh?
when i joined a team then we just pracced for oc matches and nothing else...
in my 4-5 years career in ET i played only 2-3 laddermatches :(
sad but true....
I bet there is enough visitors in crossfire to get some decent sponsorship and prizes to the monthly top3, the most active team and seasonal top3
Tho it should be hosted by crossfire only.
cu next month ladder column...
i love ladders :)
