Just as ET reached its 10 years milestone, it went down the hole with a series of unfortunate events.
Let's take a look back at some of the biggest step backs on the competitive scene in Enemy Territory:
ESL dropping out;
SLAC/TZAC project failure;
CB ending;
UAC soon to be discontinued;
and much more.
So.. How do you see ET in the near future?
No one can foresee the future, and this game seems to be on the edge of ruin, however, there's still a chance to save it.
Some may have lost hope, some still fight for it, but only time will tell what the future will bring to this wonderful game.
So tell me, how do you see ET in the near future?
The game have indeed decresed in activity, but lets face it, its 10 years old and demands from player to invest a lot more time into the game to get even low+ than any other FPS game out there. Most of games are focused/based on single headshot phase, where u would insta kill enemy, while in ET this is different, and takes from player a lot more aiming skills to be able to kill anyone at first point.
Not to mention it has its unique gamestyle with 5 different classes and really great teamplay that probably can't be achived at any other game.
My guess would be that during these months, we will focus on trying to bring up some alternative for ClanBase and focus on getting that league active, second thing would be to get anticheat for ET, which lets face it, for a game as old as ET is and such a small userbase, its near to impossible to find anything. Best chance is to have someone with decent knowledge code one, but that requires time, hopefully some options will be working towards it.
Afterall, its up to community to keep ET alive, we can provide league and hopefully AC, but at very end, community is the one that will have to invest their time to play games on daily basis and with that make it more active and more attractive towards other old and new players to give it chance.
I guess particular group of users here at CF most of the time isnt helpful as well, as i have seen many times not really being helpful towards new players who seek to recruit or be recruited, or just tend to play some IRC games.
All in all, ET can be active for couple of years to come, if community decides to.
et needs new players. but that is prolly not gonna happen. maybe etlive can get some new players to play it, cuz of the easy access. but i dont know when this project is going to be finished, if it actually is going to finish
Did you try it? I hated the game too, tried it 2x and always gave up... till i forced myself to try the game.. its actually funny, active and competitive!
Plus one. Every esport lover cant deny the fact its going huge
i remember back in the days i was playing for fun with friends but hated that game too but when you learn all the shits this game has to offer you become addicted to it and also got to admit the fact that korean scene is fucking entertaining
True.. and the devellopers are supporting the game in a massive way, constantly updating, improving, bringing new stuff.. even spending huge amounts of money as a "consolation price"...
Personally i am not yet on the stage of enjoying "X scene" or streamers.. i am still discovering some champions and roles... and trying to improve and get into a better ranked position.
Thats true.. it's a huge disadvantage for us, but they are working on it.. it might take a while, but the final product seems to be worth it... a whole new data center, well positioned in europe with a adapted network protocol... seems worth it
True... America 1 hour server down -> "1000 rp per player"... EUW? No fucks given.. i even lost a ranked cuz everyone was lagging -> no loss forgiven...
to bad, ive played some games after ET, but no other game comes even close. All fps games all have the same gameplay and is just very boring and slow. Wish ET could be more active
downloaded etpack and tried playing after like 2 years.
-> lagspikes every 2-3 seconds despite100mbit connection and 125 fps stable
i lost interest once again :D
the game is just too old. it's a pity because the concept and gameplay was indeed close to perfect.
Nothing that couldnt be fixed with some modifying, its even better to install ET with raw files, et.exe and patches only, to avoid any kind of external settings which could ruin ur fps or anything else in that way.
Try the following:
- if you have an nvidia card: turn off threaded optimization under 3d settings
- r_primitives 2
- pb_sleep 500
- update PB from game's PB folder using pbweb.exe
- try to run the game using 1 core of your CPU only
(more on that here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/83864-processor-affinity-add-set-affinity-context-menu.html - works fine with win8.1 as well, I used it myself)
- revert any CPU/GPU overclocking that wasn't done by the manufacturer
- run the game using windows xp sp2 compatibility mode and/or with admin rights
- update your drivers (probably needless to mention it)
I just had to struggle with setting up ET for a couple of days to finally get it working right and I figured I'd share with you the things that came up along the way. GL and I hope you return! The more active players in the community, the better:)
I unfortunely have to agree with you saying people killed it but not with fact its dead because i think its not, some people are still playing it actively all tho it isnt active as it was
ET is still not dead, may it seems so but its not, what et needs are more cups, and some players...here are still 10 players owning the et scene so, turn the et nations cups back, the official cups too, so to change it a lil bit, we need CB back and the cups also, its not just a fps shooter...
Not to mention it has its unique gamestyle with 5 different classes and really great teamplay that probably can't be achived at any other game.

Sad to see such a game gone.
