audio advice required

hi crossfire

which would you consider a better purchase for daily use on public transport?
comparing the goldring ns1000 and phonak pfe 022 earphones atm

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Phonak-Audeo-Perfect-Earphones-Microphone/dp/B003VO0ZF2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1316687894&sr=8-4 or http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/4801

main points of comparison are a £20 difference in price, noise cancellation vs sound isolation, size/durability of headphones vs. earphones and sound quality

will be used primarily with an iphone 4, no headphone amp atm but considering the purchase

audio will be mostly electronic (house/techno) and hip hop

any advice is appreciated

You look like a douche with the goldring one, but you won't care because you won't hear anyone or anything except for your music.
Why do you look like a douche with that one?
Parent
My personal opinion is that everyone who walks outside wearing a huge headset looks like a douche. That opinion is probably supported by the fact that there are a lot of people who use the headset more like a wardrobe item/fashion statement than to actual listen to music.

e.g. http://earphonegirl.blogspot.com/
Parent
I don't use it for fashion, but then again I'm quite passionate about music
Parent
Headphones produce superior sound-quality over earphones, and to me it doesn't make someone look like a douche. Not unless the thing has diamonds and bling all over and is solely worn to make a fashionstatement.
Parent
Sure, but I do think it makes you look like a douche.

ignore the poor selfmade stereo to mono cable .... ordered fkin 2meters of 24 AWG solid silver wire with clear teflon insulation and they send the me fkin 12 awg speaker wire or something ... was forced to use a cat5 cable since i already did the replaceable cable mod

anyways both suck
which model?
Parent
creative aurvana live with markl dynamat mod and replaceable cables
(they are pretty much denon 1001s ... same driver for only 60bucks)

atm i like them more than my audio technica ath m50
Parent
look nice and they're reasonably priced, just reading some reviews now

what's the sound isolation like with the aurvanas?

i also looked at the ath m50 but they're a bit too expensive for me atm
Parent
the sound iso sucks , got better with the dynamat inside the cans but its still kinda meh ... yet the soundquality and the price are just too good.

edit: also most comfy headphones ive ever had ...
Parent
Why would you want to use a stereo to mono cable? :E
Parent
MP3 player only has a mono thingie?
Parent
right speaker and left speaker got their own 3.5mm jack ... thats why :p

mono is prolly not the right term as its just a splitted stereo
Parent
Ah, yeah, that's what I thought

http://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-K141-MKII-Supra-Aural-Headphones/dp/B0016MOA7A
got them for rehearsal monitoring and general music listening. best buy for the money imo
Personally i'd go for something in between like 'portable headphones' earphones is a no for me and i wouldnt want to wear big noise cancelling phones in public (nor carry them around all day). AKG has some sweet models like http://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-K450BLU-K450-Headphones-Navy/dp/B001F6M5DI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316704270&sr=8-1 & http://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-Acoustics-518-DJ-Headphones/dp/B000ISP3M4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1316704270&sr=8-3 (closed back) which still produce a pwerfull bass
I got the head-direct re2 a few months ago and they are brilliant. Only cost me £26. Do a search on head-fi.org and you will see how good they are. You can get the re0 which are even better (considered better than the sennheiser ie8) but they cost £52. You can get them from http://www.head-direct.com/
