Netbooks/Notebooks

Moin crossfellas!

Since the new University Semester is starting in a little more than a week and i m starting out with the Masterstudies i m currently seeking for a Laptop.

It`s just that I dont have the slightest clue about such products anymore. Basically i m searching for something which is really small, having a good Akku lifetime and which is able to handle easy Office crap like writing, going through pdfs and such. It should also be able to handle Wolfram Mathematica.
This actually sounds to me like easy enough for a Netbook but id like to ask you what you think. Is it true that Netbooks re really that poorly equipped?

If i had a big budget id prolly go for something like a Macbook Air but i d rather buy something worth around 300€.

Gimme some input please :)
Thanks, regards

depends on your school and study

do they have a proper amount of computers at school?
u need admin rights for your pc work? If so, does your school provide those?
and the most important question
can you work without a computer?

we do have plenty of public computers at university but what i m looking for is a laptop for following and editing scripts and presentations of professors during their lesson. Also i want to organize stuff better.

in my bachelor study a laptop was absolutly not necessary. i m studying physics and basically what you need to study is a pencil and paper.
not masterstudies are more theoretical and thats why it now makes sense to switch to a notebook.

netbooks tend to have the best battery life, since they have a really small screen + gimped specs
i wouldnt mind one myself, would fit neatly next to everything else on mah table/desk while @ uni
10 inch is just too small for a proper browsing experience :p

used netbook for a while, annoyed the shit out of me, bad for browser cuz so damn small+even facebook lagged :D
not sure how much resources wolfram mathematica needs but i guess a netbook would run it just fine. However, i fucking hate them.. i can't rly work on such small laptops :( If you want one, check out the Asus Eee PC's (there are many different ones www.geizhals.at ). Two of my class mates had one and they were "nice" if you like to scoll around at your desktop and like to read a webpage the way you do it with a smartphone :P

I would go for 15,6" :S The Asus X52F-XQ2 costs 499$ = ~370€

But not sure if the battery will last long enough for you. And it probably is already too big for you..
well fortunately right after posting this journal i found a friend borrowing me his Asus Eee and i now got it right in front of me...
well it appears smaller than i did expect it but well, i actually dont want to go for a 15 incher.
they re too big for my needs now. i even have a 17incher here still from my school times.
This guy is fucking huge and heavy as fuck. and the akku says byebye after half an hour :P

i guess the best size would be 13 inch but that might cost some akku life again...
the Eee of my friend says hes working for 8,5 hours straight which is pretty impressive :)

i reckon you can shave some money on the cpu but make sure you have 2gb+ ram if youre mainly using it for office and wolfram shouldn't be a big deal then
i'm pretty much in the same situation.
macbook (air?!) is awesome and doesn't make any problems for ages, unlike most other notebooks...
but the high costs are a main reason why i tend to some netbook too...
a friend of mine got a really small asus netbook aswell which seems to work really good and his battery lasts for ages aswell...
prolly youre also tlaking about the Eee...
i m having one right here next to me, borrowed from a friend.
that 10inch screen is having brilliant quality (led) but its fucking tiny.
for the moment i could tell for both of us that 13 inch is prolly the best if you want "as small as possible but as big as necessary"

every student needs anything what allows him to use facebook comfortably during expositions :x
haha :D
i m not that much of a powerfacebooker. but certainly you do have those situations where you simply cant stand the crap that the guy infront of the board is talking about but for your ego you stay in the lesson but do random shit on ur pc/smartphone :D

buy yourself goooooood smartphone with biiiiiig screen to cheat on tests, browse inet and comfortably message with friends instead of netbook/notebook

full-hd ist eine tolle sache, diese netbook-auflösungen = zyklomg. ob mathematica damit vernünftig läuft bezweifle ich je nach anwendung (kann es aber nicht mit sicherheit sagen).
naja, mein 3.5kg 16", 12gb ram teil ftw.
