Then, theres Opeth. Sht just got real. Drop all death metal related aspects to produce a progressive rock cd that honors all the music you, as a musican, like. Massive shitstorm ensues. I understand the reasoning behind this and I also like the result, although sometimes it feels a bit unfinished. However, I'm kind of sad seeing that we probably won't get "signature Opeth", which is combining death metal with seventies prog rock, for quite a while. Looking forward to see them in december, nevertheless.

Just recenty I picked up "Five Serpent's Teeth" by Evile, plain old oldschool thrash metal heavily influenced by Metallica, Exodus etc.

Exchange "thrash" with "death", "Metallica" plus "Exodus" change to "Entombed" and "Dismember" and you get Entrails. By far my favorite album not spending a day without listening to it.

Wolves in the Throne Room also put out a new record, presumably their last one, this band is playing some sort of post / avantgarde black metal. To be honest it is pretty difficult to put their music into words.
