external drive halp

Hi there,

I'm looking for a new external hard drive, since my current one decided to bail on me, and i have no interest in trying to get it restored. I'm not really up to date with the latest ones, but i do have a few that i've had a look at - yet i can't decide what should i go for. I did google a fair amount of time but i'd still like to hear your opinions / personal experiences / recommendations.

these are the few that i had a look at:

Buffalo drivestation 2TB
i suppose i wouldn't be needing 2TB of space at once, so i read i could part it into 2 partitions, which means if one happens to fail the other will still save my data. Though i'm not really interested in this one because it didn't recieve that much positive feedback. only reason i'd go for it, is because it's rather cheap'ish.

LaCie 1TB
mixed messages is the best way to describe this. some say that it's the best(?) external drive they've used, others noted that it died after a year of usage...i also know that a mate of mine uses this but i haven't yet found the opportunity to ask his personal opinion about it.

last but not least Western Digital MyBook Elite 1TB
this one i am interested in since it roughly meets my requirements, yet i didn't do enough research on it to be sure i would want to buy this.

I also have to note that these are selected purely on the fact that they're available in store nearby and i could pick them up...even today if i'd decide upon one to purchase.

So now, it's your turn to criticize my chosen hard drives and/or recommend me better.

Help appreciated :)

Try and get a 7200 speed drive,a bit faster for transferring pron, oops, files
they're all 7200rpm drives, basically by specs they're not that different, i'm just not sure on how reliable they are.

Have lost all data on a LaCie drive before, due to a few knocks, have a couple of WD drives and np.If you plan on moving it from one pc to another device a lot, look for ones that have anti-shock/drop features

I got this one. I never had any problems with it. 1 bad point, 1 usb cable and 1 power cable.
how long have you been using it though?
