amd fail is fail.
failed hard
The problem with these is that they're 8 shared cores, not 8 dedicated cores. The architecture means that each core shares certain parts of the CPU with other cores creating new bottlenecks, effectively you're getting the performance of 4 but its touted as 8. Also, you can't actually BUY one of these processors, its the most delayed CPU launch I can remember in a while and this just 3 months before Ivybridge is released.

To quote the review you've linked to, "If it’s me, I’m going with the Core i5. I gave the -2500K a Tom’s Hardware Recommended Buy award back in January, and I stick by that recommendation almost a year later." If in almost 12 months you cant beat that, you're in real trouble!
I kind of assume they're going to be somewhat cheaper than Intel processors in the same league. You know, a sort of a bugded choice, like AMD processors have been for a rather long time now.

From the line above in the review:

The Core i5 costs $220 bucks, and the FX runs $245. Which one do you buy?
Parent
The core i5 obviously, but I was more talking about the yet-to-come Intel processors - aren't they going to release Ivy Bridge or whatever "soon"?
But yeah, you're right, this is no serious competition for the current Intel processors. I kind of hope AMD would bring out comparable processors so that the prices would drop.

Theres a sandybridge extreme edition to come out next month, then ivy bridge Q1 next year.

I'm glad that my 2600k has been the top model for quite some time :)

back in the day, i'd buy a pentium 4 2.x ghz and one month later there'd be a faster/better CPU on the market already. Wondering how much better the new LGA 2011 CPU's will perform.

AMD is never going to win overall performance, ever. But the FX-8100 could turn out to be the best deal for CPUs if you overclock. Or if the FX-6100 can be unlocked to 8 core (not sure if they're manufactured same way as the Phenoms to make this possible) then it might be. We'll have to see once the systems are out in the real world
New processors will be manufactured in a way that won't allow core unlock.

People are just silly to think it sucks. I used few AMD's for ages, no problems, they are good performance wise for my needs, and specially they are kinda cheap comparing to a similar Intel Cpu's. Do not forget we can't compare the cpu's only, we need to think at overall price. The motherboards for Intel cpus are generally alot more expensive.
