hdd 7200 rpm?
thats pretty much the bottleneck of the system i think, agree with Ruben0s with the specs/cost
Parent
get a SSD HDD
What do you need a laptop with that much kick for?
i was able to convince my parents that im in need of a laptop for university, so theyre paying for it.... since my pc is shit i just thought about getting a decent laptop for gaming and everything else :P
Parent
did that 3 weeks ago :D got HP Pavillion dv6-6150ew
Parent
I ordered a HP 4530s

BETTER FOR SERIOUS BUSINESS
Parent

Isn't Acer complete shit?
Parent

Parent

macbook all the way. 8)
needs better screen resolution, needs 2 hdd slots (1x ssd, 1x hdd) or atleast a WAY better HDD. If you don't plan to use it as a desktop replacement then I think its fine. If its just for school then a core i5 would be enough as well.
Check www.malibal.com and www.xoticpc.com they offer a lot of custom build notebooks (asus, clevo, msi) for cheap prices.
thanks, only problem is that i dont really have an idea whats good and whats not when it comes to laptops.... can u recommend anything for that price? 700€~
Parent
HP Pavillions :D 15" i5 bluray and nice gfx=profit
Parent
had so many bad experiences with HP :/ from people that bought it in the store as well as people that bought them from/for their company :S
Parent
heard opinions that support from HP improved lately
Parent
that was one of the bad experience I made/heard of HP. support saying when sending the laptop for warranty case: "make folder xyz on C: so we dont delete it" .. then you put all your important files in it and the laptop comes back without those files cause they are deleted :S
Parent
I always have backup of that on external HDD anyway
Parent
hmm I guess for 700€ it will be hard to find any better 17" notebook. look for the Sager NP5175/Clevo W170HR on MALIBAL / xoticpc.

~750€:

17.3" FullHD (1980x1050)
2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-2430M, 2.4-3.0GHz, (32nm, 3MB L3 cache)
nVidia GT 555M 2048MB
6GB - DDR3 1333MHz
80GB Intel 320 SSD
Parent
you could also buy my current laptop:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/190585843007

comes with a very nice SSD + fast 250gb HDD
Parent
nice specs. Go for it!
for that price it is

note on processors
a pentium4 4Ghz is better than those modern "turboboost" shit
desktop replacement?
yes.... my desktop is shit, p4 3.0 ghz 1gb ram gforce 6600 250gb hdd.....
Parent
for a real desktop replacement which will last for the next few years, you will need a bit more than 700€ :S As well as you definitely want 2 HDD slots then (1x SSD + 1x HDD) and FullHD screen.
This is my desktop replacement:

http://www.crossfire.nu/?x=journal&mode=item&id=134958

Besides the great hardware some nice extras are: 120Hz 3D screen, blu-ray reader (never had that before ;D), 120GB Intel 510 SSD, up to 32GB RAM (useless tho.. I might get 16GB max if I ever run out with the ordered 8 GB RAM). If you dont want that stuff you could get it for ~1000€ I guess. Its a huge improvement over the Samsung you chose (both hardware & quality wise). As it will be my desktop replacement for the next 4(?) years, I found it worth to get the 120Hz 3D screen + blu-ray and some other stuff.

I guess you will get more support on http://forum.notebookreview.com

sidenote:The only cool thing about a blue-ray drive is the laser in it that you can use for a laser gun

who plays cd/dvd/blu-ray's those days?
Parent
i know.. never held a blu-ray in my hands.. but since I only watch hd-dvd's & blu-rays these days, I thought in the next few years I might borrow a blu-ray from a friend and then want to watch it (normally I just download them).
Parent
A cheap blu-ray drive is about 80 euro's maybe 70 for the times someone offers me a blu-ray I did rather download it. I have a portable dvd player at home and I share it with my brother for whenever we need to use a cd/dvd but that rarely happens
Parent
payed 60$ (its like 50€?) for the blu-ray reader & dvd-burner. I will never buy a blu-ray disc.. its just in case anyone wants to come over & watch a blu-ray or can borrow me one so i can watch it. DVD's simply look like crap on a 42" plasma :S
Parent
usefull if you have silly dad ;)
Parent
well the past few years i have been using a fujitsu siemens scaleo p with 3.0ghz 1gb ram and a gforce 6600..... seriously... everything is better than this piece of shit....
Parent
That doesn't mean you shouldn't get something that is 'crap' just because this 'crap' is a little bit better than your old 'crap'
Parent
yeh but neither does it mean that i necessarily need 3d full hd screen....

and hows that samsung laptop crap? i think its pretty good for that price.... also i am not really sure if i need an SSD hdd since i dont even know what that is + its only 80 gb, which is most likely not enough for my needs....
Parent

Parent
the 120 hz 3D screen was like 120$ more.. For a desktop erplacement (especiall when gaming) I found it nice to have a 120hz screen (you can't get the 120hz screen without 3D on xoticpx/malibal).

Altough the Clevo W170HR for 750€ is nice, I would upgrade it to the Celvo P170HM (cheapest place to get it is on malibal.com)
Parent
SSD = a lot faster than a HDD.. 80GB is enough since you will only put windows + programs on it. Music,pictures,... all go onto the HDD. You might wanna google ssd vs hdd.
Parent
Specs looking good for that price. You'll be wanting a 1920 monitor for when you're at home though. Im really enjoy my laptop right now (slightly better specs) in combination with a 1920 monitor when I'm at home.
