The point is, Soundcloud is a stream. Streams generally are a lot less cumbersome than downloading the file to your computer.
And the price policy seems fairly reasonable to me. Bandwidth isn't free, neither is storage space although it's much less of an issue. Overall it's a very convenient site if you want to easily distribute your music. Bandcamp is fine also.
i also used to use it but when it comes to uploading a djmix you quickly find out that your upload bandwidth is limited to 2 hours of playtime.

30 bucks a year for 4 hours of upload? 500 euros for unlimited bandwidth?
comeon.. i know storage aint free but they should rather do normal pricing, get some more people on the site and finance their webspace through ads.
truely for guys like banga sc is alright since hes doing pieces of 1 minute anyways.. but still i prefer other sites like mixcloud or house-mixes.com more. they re also streaming but are completely free, highly used and also adfree.
e: its now good for commercial djs and artists who dont have problems with using 500E a year on publishing their shit. but for small hobbyartists its not effortable anymore. and i dont know if that seperation is a good or a bad thing overall
30e a year is hardly an unreasonable price. It's what, 2.5 euros a month? Even I could afford that. The next option with 12 hours of trackspace is still very much affordable at 9 euros a month.

Because it makes me feel good when I insult people I dislike on the internet and even better when there are other who feel the same way about a person. Besides writing and posting a comment takes less time and effort than downloading, listening and then posting shit.
