Quotecom_hunkMegs sets the allowed memory for the graphics of the game.

Usage:
/seta com_hunkMegs 256

Values example: 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024 (of course it can be between them, higher or less also)

Note:
Don’t use more than 3/4 (75%) of your actual memory in your computer.
Usually 256 or 512 is fairly enough, even for the most complex enemy territory map graphics.

============
This is the memory that is reserved for the loading of map textures etc. The default setting for this is 24 MB. But this is very old setting too and it could be set to 32,48 or even 64. However, remember that this memory is subtracted from the com_hunkmegs, just like soundmegs are. So test some settings and use the one that seems to work the best for you.

=============
This si the memory that is reserved for loading sounds. The default value for this is 24 MB, but now days the sounds are played with 22 kHz by default, so it's probably better to set this around 48 MB. Again, this memory is also taken from the com_hunkmegs.

75% of my RAM would mean that I could set it to 12GB...

That was a good advice 5 years ago but not for today :S I guess setting hunkmegs to 512 / 1024 is more than enough. And I think 99% here have more than 1GB RAM.

Well ET is an old game m8, that was just a brief explanation I found on the webz explaining what the commands did and what were the correct values to set them to... back then...
Parent
ye the explanation of com_zonemegs gave me something to think about (check my reply below) :P
Parent
tryed many times 1024 megs and it simply doesn't work with tzac :( (doesn't allow me to join any tzac server) got any idea why mate?
Parent
not really :S .. I just remember that I had problems with higher values as well and so I use 512.
Parent
varies of pc specs doh
seta com_hunkMegs "512"
seta com_soundMegs "64"
seta com_zoneMegs "64"

where's the v81, btw
seta com_hunkMegs 256
seta com_soundMegs 24
seta com_zoneMegs 24
seta com_hunkMegs 256
seta com_soundMegs 32
seta com_zoneMegs 32
seta com_hunkMegs "512"
seta com_soundMegs "32"
seta com_zoneMegs.... well I'm wondering about that myself.. Today's gfx card have enough RAM and I would think that this RAM for the gfx card works faster than the normal RAM?
Depends on the RAM you're comparing it too
Parent
1333Mhz (9-9-9-24) since 1866Mhz RAM won't give any noticeable performance boost.. only a few more points in benchmark tests :S
Parent
as far as i know ET cant handle more than hunkmegs 256, so everything above is just senseless

e: i hope to be wrong, cuz then i can improve my fps ;P
I think you are right, unfortunely :S
Parent
soundmegs keeps a buffert of relay sounds, such as announcer and vsay, 8 or 16 is more than enough.

zonemegs is capped at 32, keep it at that.

hunkmegshandles the loading and the rendersource of the maps, 256 is enough unless you plan to play monstermaps in some strange mod.
