HDD Failure

Well, looks like my server has a broken Hard drive :( So obviously BNCs are offline until I find a way to resolve this.

Lets hope it isn't the HDD, looking at the costs recently I am not looking forward to replacing that but I will keep you updated.

And this is why in servers you use a raid 5 or a Raid 10 setup then if one does break down np the other will handle it while you get a new HDD.

Your input helps no one, it's my personal budget server and the fact I was 15 when I built it shows I wasn't on the highest income in the world.

pfff at 15 i was earning enough to buy that kinda stuff. But still a few years later you could have upgraded made it safer etc etc.

Ye he could've upgraded it, and we all know that raid is just needed for servers, but that doesn't help him now, does it????

no but it shows how much people go indepth with what they work on and find out ok what do i do in situations that can pop up like a HDD crash.
This is why we have little kids acting all cool like OH OH I HAVE A SERVER AT HOME WITH (enter name of game here) RUNNING ON IT. then they get mad when it gets DDos'd hacked or whatever problem

And as you see above your comment. The world already knows? Um why didn't you do it then i cal it human stupidty good day sir

no just browse around and see and get infomation is that too hard to do when doing something that can cause problems. I mean if you just buy a hummer because everyone else does and then find out your spending over 100 euro's on gas every week because you didn't ask what problems it brings then you should have informed about it shouldn't you.

Uh, who said we didnt do that? Marcus said that he was aware of that it might die, see the reply below. Also, this topic is only meant to inform users about why his server is down. Not to whine about that a HDD died which noone ever saw coming :P

Reasons for not:
1. Case only has 1 HDD bay
2. Lack of time and will

I knew, and people using my server knew there was no RAID array and not only that, I knew it would die eventually we deal with broken HDDs all the time, I was just lucky it lasted this many years. Again you're pointing out stuff we all know and this doesn't change the fact there is not a RAID array on the server, or the fact there is potential data loss.

Also why on Earth do you care, you don't use the server. Not only that, you don't know me and I have no idea who you are.

Because there are peole who don't know about RAID or even back-ups for that part. Plus with the useage of SSD harddrives one doesn't really need a bay any more.
And yes those are good reasons for yourself not to do it. I don't blame you i know alot of people who think the same way. This wasn't ment to be a attack on you
Just more a well it should be standard to use a RAID 5 or RAID 10 when hosting.

MAN YOU SHOULD HAVE SET YOUR SERVER IN RAID MODE 10000, NOW IT BROKE AND YOU HAVE TO REBUILD IT USING PANCAKES AS POWER SUPPLY.
