thats what i came up with after checking benchmarks and prices etc.
any flaws/recommendations? he does photoshop/after effects etc. and wants to play the newest games ofc.

question is: what powersupply do we need?

yes he needs 16gb ram, yes we have a case and all the other stuff. only psu missing.

cheers :)

2011 and no i5 2500k :P
+20e to gfx card budget & get 6870 vapor-x
depends on the application, in general the 6k series provides the same exact performance of the equivalent 5k series but is cheaper. They had planned an architecture change but because of manufacturing problems they couldn't use the die size they wanted so they're slower than they could have been.

i was expecting better fps on newer game tbh ( from 40 to 90 on bf3, 60 average )
Parent
I can't see what would you need six cores for other than heavy (3D) rendering, and Photoshop/After Effects really aren't heavy 3D rendering.

E: Also holy shit stuff is cheap in Germany.
what else? phenom II x4 980? i dont really like intel :-/ but you can surely convince me.
Parent
The I-series is god in processor form
Parent
expensive too in comparision. i5 2500k would be the most interesting alternative i guess but its like 70€ more.

and whats wrong with the phenom?
Parent
intel is just better
Parent
I haven't checked out modern components in a while because I simply cant afford a new computer. Im still running a E2160.

I was thinking about it last year though, when sandy bridge had just come out, I'm sure phenom is fine too but I know I series is rape.
Parent
I used to run an E2180, don't underestimate them, granted I had mine at 3GHz but they're speedy little chips for how low end they are

As a valued member on various computer forums, and have tested most CPU's. We all agree that Intel are way ahead. We waited like 4 years for their Bulldozer to be released, apparently to 'fuck the i7 sideways' but did it? No, it lost, even scored lower than the older 2500K.

I currently run an i5 2500K and have all 4 cores @ 4.8GHZ @ 40c and 65c max load...

Get an i5 (2500K), make sure you get the 2500K as the 2500 isn't overclockable & Sabertooth P67 motherboard.
Parent
so its like 100€ more for that cpu and mainboard instead of what i listed. where do i get the 100€ from? still need to buy psu, that noboday told me anything about yet btw.

so lets say i dont want to spend an additional 100€. what cpu would make more sense than the one i took?

e: we chose to go with the i5 2500k, another mainboard like the MSI P67A-C45 perhaps, to cut the costs. then i convinced him to only take 8gb ram so its just about the same price. thx for the advice.

so what would you say for psu?
Parent
Don't be fooled by numbers (of the power amount 700w, 1000w etc...), a decent 600w-700w would do the system.

Anything from

OCZ - apparently gone bankrupt, so impossible for warranty/RMA send back.
Coolermaster - great performer with good price
Corsair - the best but most expensive

With PSU never get a cheap alternative, it's the most important thing when building a system. A decent Corsair HX 600w is equivalent to a 800w other branded PSU. All rails stable and less coil whine.

For future proofing (add another card in future etc..) get a 700w, I have Coolermaster 700w, cost me £55 and does the job perfectly fine OC near 5GHz.
Parent
if i dont want to get another gfxcard, would 600 or 650W be enough?
Parent
a 600 Corsair = fine, or 650 other models, like Coolermaster etc..
Parent
will get 550 corsair. or do you have concerns regarding this descision?
Parent
That should be fine :P
Parent
its overclockable just not unlocked which makes it significantly more difficult thats all lol
Parent
lol, have you actually tried to OC it? You can push an extra few mhz out of it, pointless, so no, it isn't really overclockable. You can only increase the turbo multiplier by 4x on the 2500, but the 2500k 57x.
Parent
iSeries is 24 times better than anything amd has atm

HELP THE POOR
I get a computer with i5 processor with the same gfx and only 530 € :)

http://atf.ee/computers_eng/computers/atf_arvuti_kodu_pluss_akp1017109/
not the same gfx card (weaker), 12gb ram less and no ssd hdd ;)
Parent
8GB of ram is more than enough, no apps would use that amount, not even 7x Crysis 2:D
Parent
hes rendering for university and whining about how long it takes atm i told him 8gb would be enough, but whats the difference? like 20€ or sth.
Parent
A good set of 1600mhz 8GB 2x4GB modules = more than enough. Only people who 'show off' have more than 8GB :D. 8GB is more than enough tell him that.
Parent
and what you need 16gb of ram for? oO
you should have more then enough money after winning MLG !
its for my brother :p
Parent
Yeah no issues I'd just prefer a quadcore of some description and some more RAM.

Mine is at 2.69 now, got it to 3.33 but dont need to push it that much.
