ET on a MAC?

Got a new iMac. Downloaded ET for a lol & it doesn't work. Guess SplashDamage had the lol, cause they said it was available for MAC. But clearly it isn't, cause I like, have a mac, and like, it didn't work.

It just opens, and closes. Any ideas?

Worst scenario, install Windows over bootcamp. No need for such drastic measures. Beside, I dismantled my PC for the iMac; it's that much better. I didn't even type this, I thought it.

First of all, my condolences on getting mac.
Secondly, I guess your ET key did not get generated since PB is not supporting ET anymore.
Thirdly, even if you manage to make your ET working on mac, you wont be able to play any even half-serious match because SLAC is not working on mac.

Secondly, it opens & closes, and since PB generates your PBKey once you create a 'profile', which I don't get to do, I highly doubt this is the cause, since it's not the symptom, dick.
Thirdly, if I even manage to make my ET working on mac, I don't want to be able to play any even half-serious match because ITS A GAME seriarse. Bye

highly dependant on type of your work, for example I would be much less efficient on mac if I was forced to work on it.

EDIT: and macs are so freakishly expensive thus for its price, its mostly waste of money

Not really. Macs last 5-10 years easy and pcs/laptops 5 years at most. x} Its the same if u buy 2 laptops during those years or buy mac and have it without real serious problems for +3 years what you would have it laptop or pc

So the technology inside a MAC evolves while time passes thus keeping it proficient longer than a PC? o_o If one has any clue about keeping his e.g. Windows installation clean I can't see how an OSX machine would perform any better after a period of time. :/

oke people talking only about PCs here when it was mac vs laptops and PCs. waiting for you to say laptops have long lifetime. even if u format laptops thrice a year they will start struggling hard and in the end running firefox will be a problem.


and yup - friend has 10 year old mac and he has formated it once/twice in a year and its still running s m o o t h. Can't see any PC doing that without upgrading it once in a while! (notice the smooth part. s m o o t h s m o o t h and not like HEY THIS IS 10 YEAR OLD MAC AND STILL WORKING BUT FUCKING SLOW HEHEHE)

as respberry said, technology gets better all the time and most ppl are not upgrading their components just because they got damaged. I might consider myself lucky, but since we had our first PC at home, there were only few cases when we had to replace some component just because it burned out (3 times mobo, 1 time hdd from what I remember). In last 10 years, we had like 10 PCs here, excluding laptops, and most of them are functional even now without being modified (well, maybe from time to time we bought additional RAM or smth, but no dmg was there). Few of those have 5-6 years, maybe even more. So, judging from my experience, longevity was never a problem with PCs.

edit: Judging from my experience even if you format / clean up your PC (meaning vacuuming and trying to take good care of it by whiping the burnt dust and shit) pc will start slowly dying after 3 years of use. After 5 years every piece of shit is burnt and coolers aint working - lets go and buy new coolers! after that your gfx card goes shit and then follows ur GPU. AFTER that you notice you gotta buy new motherboard cause you can not get any decent GPUs to your older motherboard cause technology is going so fast x) so you gotta buy whole new pc. thats my experience about PCs and will not change

Let me guess cramped Dell-type single fan case setups. That is why it sucked, not because its a PC, but because most pre-builts are pieces of shit, the reason a mac appears to last longer is their stock cooling is generally better

I dont agree on this, as I said we have some really old pc over here at home, and all of them are running more-less as new. For example my old pc with Radeon 7500, PIII 800MHz, 2x 256 SDRam modules, no problem whatsoever. And those components were heavily used for 3 or 4 years before I bought new pc 4 years ago (I guess that PC is about 8 years old, maybe even approaching 10 years). Now its being used by my grandpa, but still works like a charm.
This being said, I understand that mac is safer choice if you want it to last long, and you certainly dont need to explain PC "circle of life" to me, but I see a problem in spending 2 times more on a machine, that may last few years longer than what I am going to buy but besides that it gives me basically nothing special. Dunno how it is in other countries, but eveything from Apple (macs, laptops, iPhones) here is like 1.5-2 times more expensive than other competitors at their level of performance. And machines in same price range are 2 times more powerful. From my point of view, apple is not offering anything special to justify their pricing, thats all.

Once again talking only about PCs. One thing for sure: I would never replace my pc by mac. Once I go study I will have Mac for sure and not some shitty laptop which will die long before while I have finished my studies. That was my original point anyway.

Bet the 8 year old pc used by your grandpa won't work so smoohtly as a gaming tool anymore right?

PCs for gaming. Mac for everything else! That is my opinion. :}

it was never smooth for games, at least not there whete it matters (I remember having 5-10fps on radar with that pc, but in cs it was ok, mafia 1 basically unplayable). If you mean whether its smooth for new games, it obviously is not. If you just wanted to know whether its as smooth as before, dunno and I highly doubt I notice any change.
Btw, I am at uni, 5th year now and I would never ever get mac or macbook. It would cause more troubles than good, but this is related to subject of my studies.

i once spotted someone in the same lecture as me on his macbook air buying or torrenting an ebook about steve jobs, think it was his biography or something, the one released after his death. he seemed do have trouble opening the file, so he ended up booting into a virtual windows 7 to read it.

If it opens and closes I would believe it has to do with graphics problems (?). Maybe in your etconfig try changing r_mode and r_customwidth and height to your screen's natural resolution or something. ET is playable under MAC, although I enjoy it more under bootcamp!
