headphones buy & clean help needed

So I have my Sennheiser HD 555 for ages now and it still works perfectly. It is super dirty altough I try to clean it every 1 or 2 months. However, today I accidentally poured a whole Cappuccino over them and I have no idea if I get them ever clean again. So I thought about buying some new ones (or maybe I get them for x-mas?). Not sure which one I should get. I connect them to my laptop as well as to my stereo amplifier (getting some new Sony ES-Series stereo amplifier as well). Preferable Sennheiser (HD 598 / 600?). Mainly for listening to music, sometimes watching movies and also playing games.

Also: How do you keep your headphones clean? I thought about getting some wooden box where I could put them inside whenever I don't use them :S

i personally have a sony mdr-v6 and absolutely love it, but theyre really hard to find for a good price since they dont make them anymore.

what kind of music?
what budget?
thats for portable headphones...
Parent
it still good though.

had it bookmarked, cant be arsed finding a different thread.
Parent
Thats useless thread if you are looking for fullsized headphones for home use, especially in price range he seems to be picking from.
Parent
im well satisfied with my mdr-v6, which i currently only use for home use (since I'm a bit too careful to take them outside in the winter and my first pair already got stolen)
Parent
well, I am using ATH-EW9 at home as well, but only when I need to plug headphones directly to laptop internal soundcard (so, technically, only when I need to use mic as well). For everything else (music/movies) I have something better, designed specifically for home use.

If your main source will be laptop, just forget about HD600s, it wouldnt be worthy. Also, can u give me exact model name of that amplifier you want to get (hope you didnt order it yet), I am pretty sure there are better amplifiers for same price.
Sony TA-690ES was the one I'm looking for.. ~150-200€. Could buy it from some friend who is "musician/dj" so it is in a really good shape. I want to have on of that age/look as my whole system is a sony es-series system which kinda looks like that / is from that age.

I guess the main source would be the laptop... if I really want to enjoy music I would plug it into the stereo amplifier tho.

What about the Sennheiser HD 598 ? Is it even a noticable upgade from the HD 555 ?
Parent
Well, I have never heard HD555 in my life, so cant judge by my own experience. On the other hand, I was using HD595 for slightly over year and from what I read, the difference between 595 and 555 is really small, with HD595 being more extended on lows and maybe kinda better looking :P I imagine HD598 is basically the same as my old HD595, with just higher number in name and slightly different color (marketing ftw :P ). On a side note, HD600s would be another cup of tea, huge improvement.
Parent
the HD 600 are also way more expensive.. and as you said.. on my laptop I won't notice the difference.

Maybe I will just got some replacement of the earbuds (if I find some guide for that).. altough my whole cable is kinda fucked as well due to my 2 kittens :S
Parent
How do you spill cappucino over your headset though :D
He thought they were thirsty.
Parent
Ah, silly question!

I buy a new pair when they get dirty
Anyone can give me advices for headphones/headsets purely for gaming under 100€?

I'm not sure what to expect from 30€ headsets in term of quality (sound & built) :S
Parent
ye, I know, I've read a lot about them before buying them. I have them only for few weeks. The sound quality is really surprisingly good for something that cheap, I mean, I had philips shp8900 which costed like 80euros and they are no worse than them - at least at certain music styles.

The built quality is shit though, and it looks like that's the place where they cut the costs: the plastic looks cheap etc. However, it's not like there are some weak spots which could break easily - it's rather well planned, only not shiny and good-looking.

Just showing some cheap alternative - obviously >100EUR sennheisers would be better. Personally I've just bought u2711 700EUR lcd and wanted to cut other costs :P However, I am quite happy with those headphones and probably will use them for some time.
Parent
Ye I guess for 30€ they are just fine.. buying some new ones every year will propably be cheaper than using The Sennheiser for some years :P

it depends more on which kind of music u like more. For Trance/Techno/House I would take a DJ Headphones. On another style of music this one would maybe sound not that perfect anymore. Best suggestion I read somewhere in inet: visit the local shop and test them with ur favourite music style.

For the named style of music I would take this one: http://www.amazon.de/Technics-RPDJ1210-RP-DJ1210E-S-DJ-Kopfh%C3%B6rer-silber/dp/B00008VIJ4/ref=sr_1_3?s=ce-de&ie=UTF8&qid=1323972213&sr=1-3
Classical music, techno, rock, pop.. I listen too a lot of different genres.

every morning I drink a nice espresso <3
Parent
Is there an Austrian coffee?

All coffee is South American/Asian surely :)?
Parent
This is true, though the techniques can vary. I'm sure there is a max-hipster place somewhere in Austria that grows its own coffee though.
