I've never used Linux so I can't compare between Mac and Linux, but I have used Windows obviously! Ever since I got my Macbook, I've never ever had a single problem with it (and I've had it for a considerable time!) while with my old laptop, I had to format every year or so due to not knowing a thing about pc's or viruses and sharing it with my mother.. this is obviously the main reason I'd probably not easily go back to a Windows laptop (eventho I'd love to try Linux if it wasn't any effort)
Besides gaming (well if you really want to game, you can always bootcamp Windows on your Mac), almost every Windows program (Word, Excel, the things you'd use regularly...) are also available for Mac, but imo easier to use (even if it's just slightly).
I assume you are not programmer nor some kind of software developer. Maybe you are right in one thing, Mac is good for ppl who dont know much about PCs and are using pc only for emails+web+office tools (word+excel). Its american product after all, cant be hard to operate -> from dumb ppl for dumb ppl (no offense, didnt mean dumb in general, just "PC-dumb")
It's very difficult to break OSX, but linux can go wrong if you update the wrong kernel image for example. So it's safer for people with no unix background. Which is a plus. My opinion is that OSX is somewhere in the middle of windows & linux, where it has the stability and reliability, and structure to a degree of linux, but the usability, and simplistic ability to do simple tasks, like windows. But equally able to do all tasks, some way or another.
I disagree, allthough it's easy to do simple tasks with OSX, I don't think it can compare to windows and definatly not the linux when it comes to functionability. In the end, alot of it comes down to software ofcourse, but I find it rather disturbing how a decent mac is about twice or three times as expensive as a decent PC, but adds so little and takes so much.
It also allows people to stay dumb when it comes to technology, which seems like a very popular trend everywhere these days. Perhaps it's just me but I find it very aggrivating how people are willing to spend 1000 euros more just to stay dumb or ignorant.
Well my iMac did cost £1000. Exactly. It has an intel i7 with 8 cores. 8GB ram. 2GBvram 1TB HDD. Infrared, bluetooth, wifi, TV receiver, webcam built in, ambient light sensor. Speakers, a mic. Wireless mouse, KB & trackpad. All kept in one neat screen. Without a tower. I think for a grand it worth it. Since a TV can cost that. Did I mention it's 27". (And I can use it as TV)
Just checked EU-Wide prices.. cheapest iMac i7 is ~1500€ (21"). the 27" = 1900€.
And the hardware for that price is so ridiculous bad :D For that amount of money you can buy a laptop that beats the shit out the iMac + get a 27" screen.
In case of an iMac I would understand a high price though. How ever, I wouldn't understand why anyone would buy that crap unless he has too much money.
I don't know how you managed that. Either you are lying, you got robbed at the dell store or you're mac didn't come from the store. I've built a PC for a friend which was better than the mac he wanted for nearly half the price (was abit less). The only 3 points it differed on were
1) the screen was barely 2 inches smaller, but the specifications were clear.
2) It was way cheaper
3) He can upgrade it whenever he wants with whatever he wants, I'd even do it for free for alot of friends if they would need help.
The stiff competition in the components needed for a PC, despite motherboard+processor ofcourse (amd + intel), not only makes for a reasonable price, I can also pick whatever I want and be provided with a detailed list of specifications to compare for the best quality/price gain.
All fine untill mac takes over alot of the industry and morons start telling you how mac is so much better than PC in every way. And to be fair, I also dislike how it's just another way for people to not think for themselves.
I like my Ipod. But besides the ipod I do think mac is asking way too much money for dumbed down products with limited features and bad specifications. All these people I know who are in the designing industry claim that it's better for their applications are dead wrong imo.
The only reasons I could think of why people are buying mac computers is because they are 'trendy', easy to use and have monopolised alot of software. I think those are pretty shitty reasons to spend twice the amount of money as its worth on something.
