need help with computer

Hi guys,
Got a new computer, but when I connect it to my screen it's just all black. He can find the VGA cable that is used to connect the computer to the screen, but it's just all black then it says
"Monitor goes to sleep."
When I rebooted it, it did work and I had view, but when I had to reset my resolution, and it said "Set to 1", which I pressed, I had the same problem all over again and now none of them are working.
Video card, motherboard does work on this computer screen.
Cables are all correctly plugged.
It's something else who can help me?

my monitor have both and long time ago i had same, i just pluged in vga, then dvi and i could use my dvi cable again.
They should fit on each other. I already had the homepage of Windows going when I rebooted, but now it doesn't work
if yes, try other cable, not sure but it helped me

Needed an extra device to connect VGA cable with DMI.
