Never thought about it in that way. Surely now we can sue the FBI for 'removing material that is owned by you', 'wasting your time, and losing you potential money in the future', 'damaging ones past time and hurting them emotionally', 'punishing the good for being good'.
Actually, if you can prove that a company has done you wrong, you can get money. For example is if a company crushes your car, even by mistake, and that makes you late for work, you get fired... that company can be liable for these actions and you can sue them for years worth of wages.
If someone created the music on 1 movie, and owned the material throughout the movie, they can legally sell it as their own. If they was to say, I uploaded that to sell on this date, to these people, and people here were to agree and say they were to purchase it, they would have to listen to the majority.
Also the use of ones internet connection costs money, I would like the 2 hours worth of my monthly bill back, as it took that long to upload, and now you removed it.
I could go on, but a decent lawyer could make a whole case out of this.
wa call that "loss of a chance". I see what you want to say but in general its very difficult to get a decent reparation for this kind of damage before court
Update: The websites for the Justice Department, Universal Music Group, the Motion Pictures Association of America and the Recording Industry Association of America have all gone down, and the hacker group Anonymous is claiming credit as retaliation for the Megaupload arrests.
