FTP > FTP

Does anyone know of a decent tool to transfer files from a public FTP to my FTP? I have really slow internet (0.010Mb, slower than 99% of England). Need to transfer FTP to FTP.

It's for ET MOVIES =]

Cheers

Filezilla?
Reliable one :P, always disconnects me :(. Also needs to support a file list to transfer a folder/contents over, not whole FTP :P

Thanks, not used this in years. Seems like it doesn't want to work (but that's my servers settings). I just submitted a ticket to them, I guess they won't be happy at around 100GB of network traffic :).

ftp://ftp.ludd.luth.se/pub/misc/swertcw/movies/ > all going on mine :P

I did use another one many years ago. Though I think that one you had to pay for (which you probably don't have to if you know the right websites - not allowed to post anything about cracked things on crossfire)

If I remember I will post it.

cuteFTP

(though it seems to be pretty outdone now by smart ftp so might not be worth checking)

if you have shell acces, use wget :D
;), done already :D. Host is asking a lot of questions about files contents :D
Parent
ohhh who's your host ?
Parent
don't waste your time doing that, really just think about what you actually want to do and how shit it is.
Parent
you could have asked me for some hosting as well.. cheaper and I won't bitch around as much as unlimitedwebhosting :P

Anyway, filezilla is a really great client if you forget about it's password storage (none encrypted logins). Besides that WinSCP is very nice as well.

I need to have a solid host that isn't going to let me down. I've been with many hosts in which they resell (friends etc..) and they always stop paying for their server and I lose my website and files :(. I've been with unlimited about 1.2 years now, always reliable, super fast downloads and 24/7 instant support. I also have a huge discount on that price since I registered in 2010, the price stayed at that.

My server hosts important files and websites for a few organisations and me losing that would be bad for them.

What server do you have anyway, a dedi?
Parent
Ye ofcourse a dedicated server :) Running for ~1-2 years now. Uhm I wouldn't really stop paying for my server since all my private/important stuff is on it. E.g. my e-mails ([email protected]), my own websites & projects, etc... also I sell hosting space to a few other guys to get a bit of income and make paying for the dedicated server easier.

E.g. ask beggin (owner http://www.sanfranciscoandroid.co.uk/) or homiee (who is currently hosting ~10GB of university stuff).

Actually the first year I didn't sell anything.. just used it for my own stuff + gave it away for free to friends. Some months ago I decided to start selling (for very cheap prices.. cheap > nothing) since I won't use all the resources on my own anyway.

I'm just curious, what do you get & what do you pay?
Parent
I pay £12 per month and get 120GB worth of space, unlimited bandwidth etc.. the data centre is also close to where I live, and the support is excellent. Pricing up my current configuration costs £55 per month usually, but I'm not going to moan or point it out to them :D.

Their standard hosting (including reseller) offer unlimited disk space and bandwidth at around £3.40 per month. Includes cPanel also, a great bargain considering it's been up 100%.

Ye your old contract really is cheap :)

However, umlimited isn't really unlimited in 99% of hosters. They will limit your download speed for example. Also there is the question about backups & stuff.. is your data still there in case of a HDD crash?

Unlimited disk space & traffic for 3.40 surely isn't real. Also check there Terms & Conditions.. I bet they "allow" theirself to quit any customer whenever they want. So if you exceed the disc space / traffic they will just cancel your contract. But I guess as long as you won't use 500GB + disc space and 5GB traffic nothing will happen :P

They do actually offer 'unlimited' on the VPS, I was assured this before joining up, no caps whatsoever, there isn't even a fair usage policy afaik :p. I understand what you mean though, the majority of hosts have a fair usage policy which doesn't seem very fair to the client.

Quote NO Restrictions - We hate restrictions and limits. Every aspect of our cloud powered hosting platform is truly limitless. From web space to E-mail accounts, we don't impose unfair limits or hidden restrictions.

I have a friend who's on the standard hosting package (website), and he hasn't been limited yet (so he says), he's the type of person to fill his space with junk :P.

And yes backups are done daily, I had to use one as I messed some shit up and they restored it for me :P. I wasn't going to upload another 8GB worth of data on a < 1mb connection :P.

Quote1.4 Unauthorised Scripts and Executables
The customer agrees not to run any scripts, executables, or other programs or processes on Unlimited Web Hosting UK Ltd's servers that will any any way adversely affect the performance of said servers.

So actually they could kick you for everything :P But then again.. I think pretty much every hoster has such terms & policy.. the question is if they make use of it. Also found some weird things about them.. some people also wrote that when they did some research about that hoster that they found faked reviews and very mixed true reviews. But anyway, if you have a friend there who is using a lot of the resources and still everything is working for him then yours should be fine too ;D

A funny thing tho (found in some forum):
A guy working in a big datacenter + owning a hosting company said that their prices (unlimitedwebhosting) and their "unlimited plans" are so cheap that he could get rid of all his dedicated servers (which his hosting company and the datacenter are using) and just buy services from unlimitedwebhosting.co.uk and resell them. Would give him more profit. Then he made clear that unlimited surely isn't unlimited and that there are fair limitations for the price. Else unlimitedwebhosting.co.uk wouldn't be able to exist :P

Ever thought about getting a dedicated server together with your friends? More secure & might be cheaper (no I'm not selling them :P).

I do have a friend with a dedicated, he only uses it for small projects and doesn't sell accounts either. I could always join in with him, BUT he's not always reliable. I've had a hosting package off of him before, was paying £1 per month (lol), and he just decided to not carry on selling. I didn't mind as I was only hosting a game glitching forum/site, but now I host things worth quite a bit of money. Having a dedi would have to only be paid by me so I know it's 100% secure and no arguments over who's is who's etc..

I do agree though, unlimited doesn't exist, but from what I use, I don't think I'll be having any problems.

I have to give them a 10/10 for their support, they answer within 2minutes of submitting a ticket, and fix it on the spot (if there's a problem). I even had to contact them on new years, they still responded and fixed the problem in seconds.

They do take their rules seriously as they've been arguing about hosting the movies from SWERTCW, they say that it's against T&C to just host files.. I can't seem to find this anywhere in the T&C's.
Parent
Well that's why I said buy one on your own (or with friends who are serious about their hosting). For 16€ a month u can already get a very very nice dedicated server ;)

Ah ye there you go.. as soon as it comes to big sites & lots of traffic & disc space they use their T&C :P But ye for small project you will be just fine :)

I wonder, who wants to host swertcw? I already wanted to host it & get the domain a few months ago.. as well as the rtcw.jolt.co.uk website.
Parent
Can you please link me to a cheap dedi? I can only source ones for around £55 per month.

Cheers.
