So chaps - which is the best Civilization game? Looking to do me some leeching.
Is Civ 5 any good? It looks VERY different to the Civ 2 I knew & loved as a child. Looks more like a brother of Age of Empires 3.

i rest my case
civ2: still playable, great sequal which stayed true to the series. perfect for a tablet or eee pc
civ3: most fans will agree this wasnt the best version, I never played it that much
civ4: best version of civ, especially with Beyond The Sword installed. Latest patch even removed cd check or any DRM. If you want to get into civ4 and play it like a 'pro' read trough some of sulla gameplays which just take the game to the next level.
civ5: installed it, played it for 3 hours or so and never touched it again. Basicly they joined the trend of dumbing down their game in favour of the masses.

This guy was part of beta testing civ4 and his oppinion and multiplayer playstyle is legendary and well respected.
it is just physically impossible...
edit:talking about single player with beyond the sword patch installed
are you kidding me? its doable, you just need to learn to use the whip / chop early on to grab a big enough territory. Next slingshot civil service with oracle and lightbulb a scientist. Read the sulla page and you'll see you just need to step up your gameplay and make better decissions.
edit: ofc sp with bts installed. you petty chieftain
So the latest patch makes it free anyway?
from BTS you can move on to popular mods like 'Fall from heaven' or Legends of Revolutions. FfH is tolkien based wheras LoR is aimed at hardcore civ4 players expanding, balancing and improving the interface.
tho it sucked
My problem is investing that much time (26 fucking hours) & not getting massively frustrated if I do something stupid. I'm that used to the instant gratification of FPS & the respawnability of ET / Q3 it's hard to transition.
Civ 2 for a tablet - WHERE??! Android?
i got civ2 on my eee pc when i travel, you can prolly get it working on a tablet if you are determined enough :p
civ4 - great!
i installed victoria 2 the other day, havent gotten around to trying it yet =p looks like eu3 after the renaissance :p
If it's doable to get into with a steep learning curve that's ok, if you just have to look up 1028310283 things before you even know what you're doing its prolly not for me tho :<
just installed victoria 2, started the game as holland and i have no clue though it looks a lot like eu3. guess i need to read through some of this to get a clue http://www.paradoxian.org/vicky2wiki/Country_Guides
You face Gandhi, Eradar lord of the Indian Legion.

civ5 is a console game, made to appeal to the lowest common denomitator. its a disgrace to te civ5 series. build a city, doesnt really matter shit where you put them. war? ai is fucking retarded even after so many updates, guess one unit per tile is even worse then the civ4 stack of doom. But ofcourse, i can imagine casual gamers enjoy a game where you cant possibly fail or loose ...
About 5, who the hell plays / can play those on consoles? You mentioned the stack-pile-fix, I loved that, city-defence too, also those city-nations (forgot again) was a nice idea.
Hmm. I guess I shall install it again since I remembered it again, I just need some more free-time with it. Played it two times with 2/3 level, was superir before industrial, got bored. :)
maritime city states are so op that i cant put it into word, even after the patch nerfed them
civ4 is just way ahead of civ5. they are trying to balance and fix civ5 but there are some core gameplay mistakes in the game, the one tile a unit for example and the endless city spamfest because it really doesnt matter where you put them.
