but the thing is, considering macbooks, if you CAN afford burning money like that, you'll have a high build quality laptop optimized for the hardware it came with. So it does fit a niche, albeit a fairly slim one, especially if you know your way around computers
the thing is, "if you CAN afford burning money like that" I could get a setup twice as powerful as macbook without obvious limitations that come with any MAC product. I dont see a problem with Apple or with their products, but their prices are sometimes way too off. But there are always many ppl who are more than happy to pay butload of money for the bitten apple on chasis. Apple products are for ppl who have the money and they like to maintain some sort of look/fashion. But for geeks/nerds/technologically "educated" ppl, apple will never be a viable option as long as they keep their pricing policy. I am not saying apple products are not as good as other companies, but they are better than any other high-end and certainly not worth of paying twice for same specs where I even get my hands tied by Apple.
i wouldnt mind a macbook air though, as its superior to netbooks and lighter than 13.3 notebooks, would be great for lectures (I would probably still dual/tripleboot it though :D). At least until ssd-s become cheaper and mainstream in notebooks => awesome battery life.

Idd the quality is nice (maybe a bit better than any other laptop) but if you buy the same tech (wich will be mostly arround 30% less) you could be able to buy another one 2 years later (the life of a "multimedia" laptop i would say)
Really.. you are as dumb as the typical mac user.. what about paying 50% less than a Macbook Pro would cost while getting the same technology/hardware as a Macbook Pro has?
what filus said. it really doesn't take a genious to code an OS like the ios. (refering to android). sure a) they're both magnificent jobs without a job (that noone can just do like that) b) i know android still, accordning to alot of iphone users lacks "sth". BUT 900 quid for a phone is just fucking bollox. especially, when you consider that it's really just a toy, and for something that you can nearly get for half the price...
PS: there's really only two ways they can go:
a) they start dominating the market once and for all, which so far doesn't look like it (saleswise)
b) they'll just do like cisco (*sadpanda*) and be an "avarge highroller"
I recently got a brand new Nokia N9, which OS got update just yesterday. It has pretty much everything iphone has (excluding apple store). It excels it in usage on many areas, hardware is top notch, works as a usb storage without drivers, transfers music without itunes, shares its internet connection with my laptop while travelling and is a way better looking device. I am not saying it is better than iphone. I am just saying that it is pretty much equal.
Aaaaand here is the catch, it cost 330€.

Same strategy windows used to get their monopoly. People just pick the brand they heard off and are generally lazy sheep. It blows my mind how people are willing to burn so much money for something barely worth it. And the worst part is, apple is known for their terrible working conditions and bad salaries in their factories. No wonder they make so much money. Capitalism at its finest :p
