Kubrick is overtalked, Tim burton aswell...someone can advise some director and specially a film that had a great impact in the story of cinematography. Atm i'm so busy that i dont have time to think about specially with last exams :D
just want to have some idea to share with my supervisor

But on a serious note, how about David Fincher?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1655442/
It is a silent film so it is somewhat out of the ordinary.
on the other hand, i think David Fincher did an amazing job with fight club and se7en.
I'm also surprised Christopher Nolan hasnt been mentioned yet

so an analysis can be simple or quite difficult.
Gives you a lot of choices in good and especially important movies (Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet) for e.g. film theory, intermediality etc.
Personally, I would write about Takeshi Kitano.
have no idea tbh ... :(
and for lulz:
Mel Gibson (Passion of Christ drama thingie) /Clint Eastwood (cause you might not feel lucky)
Had a discussion the other day about what can truly be considered a 'generation defining' movie, we came to the conlusion The Matrix was one of ours.
Although a lot of good/great movies have been made, The Matrix is one of the few where your head actually felt as if it were about to explode the moment you left the cinema.
