Mobile phone problem

I have got a HTC mobile phone for about half a year now. But since 4 months it cannot detect my "SD-Card", where my music is on, and where it puts my photo's whenever I make a photo.

I have read different forum topics where guys have the same problem as I do. It's pretty annoying, now I have to drag my ipod with me for music (which it is used for ofc), but I want it on my mobile phone too.

I contacted the company where I bought this phone from, they said I should update my mobile phone then it would work. But in order to update my mobile phone it needs to find my SD-card. So it's like an endless circle...

Yes, I have reset it.
Yes, I have disconnected it and inserted it. (when I insert it, it says: "Preparing SD-Card", then after 5 seconds it says "SD-Card removed without me even removing it"
Yes, I have tried to update.
Yes, I was connected to the internet.

Anyone has a clue what to do?

E: contacted the company I bought it from again + HTC now too
Just want a new phone, this one is crap

yes, contacted them again now. I want a new phone they can have this crap back.

+ no the phone did not say that otherwise it would have been thrown out of the window already :P

Well, im connected to the internet. Then it says "update is ready to be installed" I press that button. Then it says "Can not update because SD-card is not found".

Now i got android 3.2.3 or something and it needs 3.2.4

yes, it's the mobile phone itself not SD-card. It works perfectly

Thats strange, I very recently did a system update on my HTC Sensation with no SD-card in it.
