I need help with making bnc on my dedicated linux server.

Why don't you use screen/irssi? :)

my VPS went down for some reason and i've not got round to phoning my friend to ask why. Any account for the time being would be appreciated.

use sbnc 1.1 with webinterface. You'll need to compile the tickle module before you compile sbnc.

Only good option is to use ZNC.
I switched from sbnc to znc because it's superior.
It's easy to install just look on their website.
