I want to know how the supermarkets superstores are working in your countries.
In descending order going on quality/price, and also from a social side of things
goes something like this
Waitrose
Booths
Selfridges
Marks and Spencer
Sainsburys
Tesco/Asda/Morrisons
Lidl/Aldi/Netto

This means that food is expensive (also contributed to by the high taxes) because of no real competition. Both of them also have this card thing that you can opt for which gives you "bonus points" (ie. you get returned some money monthly for every purchase you make, don't ask me what's the sense behind it). It probably works by scamming people who don't use these cards by increasing the regular prices and then returning this increase back to people who belong to the club.
Of course there's Lidl which is ridicilously cheap compared to the local chains, but for whatever reason their stores are always kind of far away from the city centre (from where I live, the nearest Lidl is 20km away).
Those pay-offs aren't real and nobody really profits about them, just maybe some one-time-cheaper prices, but they get you by selling other stuff to you at the same trip.
Marks & Spencer

Dunnes / Tesco / Supervalue
