SAFE is the new Jason Statham Film
Its a typical action film, fast moving with fight scenes, gun battles and car chases. However, it also has a complex story line and lots of different characters. There's two main characters which run parallel for the first 1/3 of the film but then collide in a very strange way.
The complex story lines almost make and almost break the film. The relationship between Stathams character (an ex cop / hard man) and the other character (Mei, a 10 year old girl) is vague at best. However, its their relationship with the other characters (other gangsters and cops) which makes the film.
As you would expect from Statham there's lots of fighting, car chases and gun battles. They all flow from one to another pretty well and keep you on the edge of your seat. Its certainly one of the most deadly films he's made, though perhaps not as violent as 'The Mechanic' was.
Overall this film does suffer from trying to be a little bit too clever, it takes a long time to get going and ends with an awkward scene. However, the story line is understandable and makes sense, the use of a very young girl as a main character in a violent film also works and the fight scenes are top notch.
I rate this film 3.5 / 5
+ action packed
+ good attempt at story line
- tries to be too complex
- strange relationship between the main characters
watched it, was good!
Although saying that he does it well, but its a shame as its not the most skilled type of roles ;)
