Building a dedicated server

Hello crossies,
Just earnt a dedicated server. I'd like to use it for BNCs, website, and probably game server.
Which OS should i use ? I don't have any probs if it's Linux at all but wondering which one is best for this kind of management and which distrib aswell.And licences aren't a problem at all ;)

Any version recommanded tho?
Ubuntu server 12.04 ? x64 x86?
Debian 6?
Ubuntu server and debian are very similar, go for Ubuntu for more support though
or ubuntu if you want to learn (its al little bit easier)
I don't like ubuntu :(

gentoo might be a bit problematic because it is "hard" distro
