icemat?

icemat/steelseries l-2 what ever u call it:

Soo, i was wondering is this mousepad any good? its glass so i guess its easy to clean, but will it get worn
out by mouse moving at it. also is it really as accurate/ smooth as canvas mousepads etc "normal" ones. i heard mouse skates must be changed quite frequently but its ok since they are way cheaper then buy new mousepads.

i have had steelseries qck+ twice but they get worn out really fast and are hard to clean.., surfice just gets spoiled too quickly.

another one on mice: i like mouse to be really light, 70ish grams any suggestions? steelseries kinzu seems to be nice. but im not trusting ss mice really after xai is such big disapointment with positive accel etc.

thanks

I like it. Been using it for like 5 years. It does not get worn out by moving mouse at it but crappy mouse skates sound terrible on it, so buy some decent ones. Don't really need to change them often if you don't care about that :P Just bought new ones after using mx518 default ones for almost 2 years, had no problems excluding the annoying sound when moving a mouse.
I won one icemat/steelserie still kept as new. Willing to sell it.
why didnt u use it
Parent
because its icemat finish and there is no friction at all making it impossible to aim. just packed it back.
Parent
u mean mouse slides like u walk on ice?
Parent
yes there was no control on the mouse no matter how low i kept my sens.
Parent
dont mind just pay for the shipping.

what positive acceleration with the SS XAI? I have a XAI and the acceleration is disabled. You know there is an option that disables the acceleration as well as a tool to remove acceleration on other non-windows OSes all together?
windwos accel fix ive tested w and w/o raw input too. still positive accel ingame and windows.

but what tool would remove lets say mouse accel etc if its not up to windows`?

i read many ppl complain about this inside-built accel in xai, error or not its non removable and noticable :/
Parent
Have you tried unchecking the box "enhance pointer precision" in the windows mouse settings?
Parent
http://d.pr/i/kkop is the tool I'm using on my laptop.

I'm 100% sure that acceleration is turned off. When I put my mouse to the far left of my mousepad and my cursor is at the left border of the screen, I move it vigorously to the right. When I slowly move it back to the left border again I'm on the exact same position where I was before.
Parent
The sensor itself has issues iirc
Parent
The only thing I have noticed so far is random slowdowns ( which really piss me off, actually ) luckily never had it at critical situations while playing.

Still beats the shit out of that crappy deathadder that just cracks when you squeeze it a little, I really mean a little thus not angry nerd style.
Parent
ooops wrong comment D-:
Parent
Thats negative acceleration probably. Deathadder has a great sensor in it too but I really dont like the shape. :(
Parent
I do notice acceleration when its on 5000cpi, but my testing is a bit crude I guess. I play on 450cpi so I should'nt really have any problems..

I really should replace my mousepad though, any suggestions ( using Razer goliathus control edition, but the tracking is a bit off now its worn down ).
Parent
I use a puretrak talent and have done for around 2.8 years now. The same one, too. I do probably need a new one, as it does wear but not too heavily. I always used cloth pads really. I have tried the QcK+, Golithus or w/e and the mantis speed, all of which do not compare at all to the talent. If you are a cloth user, get one.

Alternatively, look at making your own icemat!
Parent
i have this tool aswell as enchanted precision chekcer. its off. same way i have checked as u, and there is quite big accel, when i move mouse quick and then slowly back, it doesnt reach point where u start. its goes like 70% distance only.
Parent
what cpi are you using?
Parent
try 801 ( and no, this is not a joke )
Parent
didnt help :)
Parent
on some forums people are claiming that it is because of a cloth mousepad. I'm currently trying to determine the difference between my table ( which is smooth ) and my cloth mousepad.
Parent
it looks like I don't have the problem when I simply use my table.... 0.o but yeah the testing is so crude that I could be wrong entirely.. ( tried it a couple of times.. )
Parent
cant test on table since its glass but on paper a4 sheet. same accel for me. tested also different cpi and 450, 800 no difference but the higher i put like, 1600 and 3200, the higher accel is... interestingly pos accel is lower if i press "enable hardware cursor acceleration" ON, makes no sense.
Parent
I have contacted SS support and waiting on a reply. "Professional gaming gear" should not suffer from such issues.
Parent
agreed. write here or pm when u get reply please :)
Parent
ask griim
do I need to tell you again saap?
Parent
uhhh, hello there, you finally found it :D

The icemat will never wear out (lifetime of 6 years+)
The icemat is probably the most accurate pad on the market
The icemat needs to be cleaned or at least swiped over every couple of minutes (just have cloth to your hand)
The icemat will DESTROY your mouseskates but leave them hald dead. So if you're not that picky (what you obviously are) you wouldn't notice much of a difference.

About the mouse:
Thank god I'm not the only one in this ET community noticing the pos.accel on the Xai.
For a really small and light mouse without any flaws, I'd suggest the Microsoft WMO 1.1 or Razer Abyssus (not sure about no flaws on this one, but quite a few quakers are using it)
afaik, Abyssus' jittering issue had been fixed with new firmware. but still people could buy older one so it's kinda random(mine has no prob tho).

every couple of minutes? really? i havent tried icemat tho, it must be annoying if that's true.

The surface is so clean and smooth that any dust particle, hair or sweat could cause problems or make it unpleasent to play.

It's not that much of a deal though, just have some paper, towel or whatever piece of cloth next to your mousepad. Whenever you get full or got 2 seconds free time you can give it a quick swipe. You can clean it every couple of days with some window cleaner.

That's another plus on the icemat, you could even serve food on it! You can always just clean it with window cleaner or simply water. Doesn't matter if you spill some coffee, coke or pizza on it :-)
Parent
now it does sound nice actually
Parent
I wouldn't use anything but water to clean it though. Having a nice layer of shit on top of the mousepad itself probably isn't going to do anything good.

I haven't really had to clean it every 5 mins, more like once per day. Obviously there's some crap under the mouse sometimes that needs to be cleaned but you can just swipe with your sleeve once.
Parent
Never had any problems using window cleaner, as it's obviously made for glass.

However I wouldn't use any sort of soap on it.
Parent
Yeh well I'm not an expert when it comes to these but I'd expect it to have something that creates a small film on top of the pad. I guess not :> I'll stick to water! :D
Parent
need pic of icemat - puzzle edition
kinzu has positive accel too :S
damn.. have u experience of that mouse or how u know?
Parent
I had it for a couple of days, it's far worse than the Xai. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Parent
i see. not sure of mouse yet but im comfy about icemat now. thanks for effort
Parent
I'd seriously suggest checking out the Microsoft Wheelmouse Optical 1.1. Yes it's an office mouse, yes it's only 12-15 Euro and yes it doesn't glow. However the sensor is flawless (under 500hz) up to a comfortable max speed that will most likely not be hitten by most gamers (unless you are using an uber low sens of 60-100 cm/360). Its shape is similar to the Xai (little smaller) and it's extremely light weight.

Those mice just work, you won't have any problems with them, and even if you do, you can just get a new one for 1/4 of the price of a 'real' gaming mouse.
Parent
well its true its so cheap i may just give it a try
Parent
wmo und ime sind leider sehr rar geworden
als die noch verfügbar waren lag der preis bei 60€ auf amazon :D
Parent
Brilliant mat
why so, listed minuses by urtier up there arnt big deal when u think of all the positive etc?
Parent
I like it.
Parent
i used one but then went on to canvas, its ok but i think the canvas composite ones are better, see urtiers comments #agreed. Now i am straight on my desk like a pro despite owning icemat + steelseries.
