What I don't understand is that Seanza wants numbers and only sees twitch as a reliable source for those while ettv does the exact fucking thing (showing how many viewers)... It doesn't exclude people who watch on stream because you can do simple math and add those numbers together.
it isnt Seanza who sees it as reliable numbers it is support companies like Steel Series and Razer that see those as reliable numbers - why do you think BFB was on stream? it only helps ET for future events and its pretty amusing that the same people whining are the same people who tune into these LAN events ... without this sort of thing it is harder and harder to do for ET.
That might be true, but number one rule: never force anyone to do anything. As for me it doesn't work, i won't connect to ettv or stream with such behavior, might watch it later on demand, if i manage to get some extra free time.
And the 2nd rule, if this is so important, warn the viewers since the first games about this measure.. inform them that final will be available on stream only.. But before "you" do that, make sure it is watchable. It was a bit laggy, but even worst was the 0.005 s_volume with alot of background noise.... useless. Is that what you wanna show to sponsors? Great then :D
edit: and blocking gtv like this is like getting a enemy... bad measure. If i was the one providing / managing ettv, i would block my server, after such measure.
the server was at LAN, - that is how we were recording it locally initially. gtv (the site) is mainly just advertisement for what servers have the games - they arent the servers themselves although I think they probably run the majority of them.
in terms of the rest its opinion and at the end of the day it is all down to the organisers, you can make your decision (as you have to not watch the game at all in protect) but if we compare this to a similair response in the Sc2 scene it is quite laughable, it was a HD stream and was fine if you set it up proerly - sakaen had a little fix for some new people to streams, where as MLG were asking for $15 for the pleasure of a weekend to watch.
Yeah and i guess i am a reasonable guy, but forcing is just wrong... Atleast like that.

Here's an idea: if you want viewers for stream, just ask us to keep the stream in background, muted, while we can enjoy the match on ETTV instead of forcing us to watch that crappy freezing quality with tons of background noise. How about fucking that?
I wouldn't mind to do that or even watch on stream.
And to clarify, the main issue is not about it being laggy.. It was watchable (quality/lag wise ) for me, but when it comes to watch a stream with almost no et sound at all and ALOT of noise provided by viewers inside wzzrd, well i would rather watch ettv with my mp3 going on then....
Well if a company does not accept the numbers on gamestv.org I don't know if I want that company to sponsor our game...
For me it is still amazing what the gtv crew does to this day, there's no other comparable service that does this kind of coverage completely for free.
Twitch tells us how many concurrent viewers we peaked at, how long they watched for, total watched hours & minutes. We can take this information and convert it into advertising money from sponsors which means more money into ET.
I personally like to watch matches on ETTV as well, but we believe it'll benefit us all in the long run. If we could parse those stats from ETTV, it would be more than obvious for us to choose the better viewing option (ETTV).
I admit, it was a bit shitty of me to not tell people in advance about this. I'll make it up to you all <3
I can totally understand why you did this.. Maybe we should think about something like advertisements on ettv. (think of custom .pk3's for cups etc that put a watermark on the screen, change textures of flags etc to show the logo of a company)
Are you serious? :D This is all I spoke about when leading up to SAGE, everybody told me it wasn't possible without source code of ETTV. And I've just spoken to Marcus who said it's possible with the source code of ETTV, too.
Maybe you managed to miss the conversation, but it's been discussed many times by me and others at gtv whilst also discussing placement of sponsor banners / messages during the ETTV broadcast.
technically its no problem at all, all info can be grabbed from the logfiles on the individual ettv servers and with gtvd they would be safe from being tampered with while being transferred to gtv (encrypted) where they could be evaluated and made accessible in a userfriendly fashion.
However, I'm saying technically because somebody would obviously need to build it.
It would have been just fair to announce those things to the community earlier because imo how he handled it was really foolish.

Technically it's just as possible as on twitch, if not better; we could even tell you which players are specced the most.

especially if you are on a mac/linux system
