Audio set??

Im looking for a proper speakerset but I have no idea what I need

Do I need a soundcard?
I have an old motherboard

My budget is around €80 and im looking for a 2.1 speakerset.
Does anyone have experience with this?
Would love to find some GOOD reviews on lower priced sets

wat??

Stop being homo and go for a 2nd hand amp off ebay or a flea market, and some bookshelf speakers. Works a treat for me. Sick of all these bad audio products coming out all the time.

These were the only two speakers I had available at the time of getting it, instead gone for two bookshelves by sony that my gf had spare for uni/mixing etc, but want a pair of monitors ASAP.

Regarding the soundcard, you may wanna get a cheap one like an old sound blaster or something but mine have been just fine running off old soundcards and headphones in the realtek onboard port.
in fucking deed. got 4 nice speakers around me with a good amp and all of that for the price of 0 euros

Wish my desk was as clean and organized as this!
Parent
It is hardly ever like this :D
Parent
Cleaned it for the pic? :D My desk is currently strewn with a bunch of glasses I'm yet to take downstairs, a frijj bottle, a half full bottle of vodka, various bits of paper and a few crisp packets. No motivation to clean it right now! :(

= win, better than digital pc speakers/integrated amps with surround sound etc
Are the mk-II comfortable for everyday use? I really didnt like using floor standers cause I didnt have the room and had to put them on my desk instead, making everything sound farrrrr too bassy.

yeh before the hd25s i had others that were painful but you can wear them forever, they sit light and comfortable on ears -- really one of the best things i ever bought well worth the expense and last for years and years. mine are 3-4 years old but like new (except they sound better once they open/warm up)

yeh speakers can be boomy if they arent floor speakers OR on stands, prob even some absorbing matertial under them will help + will sound better in a room with fitted carpet/soft furnishings

Yeah the burning in stage especially for the lows on my HD555s were huge too, but I suppose it makes sense. These have lasted me for 3 years and I want to change them but not sure what a worth alternative will be. Really enjoyed their product and cant fault them one bit.

You mix at all?
Parent
i used to a bit but was never pro, i did originally buy the dual output sound card for it though, i see TOE in your profile - think you might like submotion orchestra and bonobo and stuff? intelligent dnb or dubstep? some newer house styles?
Parent
Not a huge fan of SMO but a massive fan of Bonobo's stuff yeah, wanting to see him but he never ventures up here (Manchester). What neck of the woods are you from?

With regards to other EDM, I'm not a huge house fan but really like some french house tracks that are released. I'm not a massive dub fan but like the older stuff (think early caspa and rusko tearing it up at fabriclive 37) and a HUGE fan on liquid and dark dnb which is what I primarily mix when I get a chance. Getting some decks really soon which should be sweet.

I'm also part of basslinersxs, which support unsigned artists as much as we can.

and yourself?

nice channel, I'm living in London i like dnb, was always my first choice, then a bit of dubstep but fuck that screamy stuff - what happened to bass? also like some chilled stuff like bonobo, nicolas jaar and some dub and random stuff like gypsy jazz and classical :D also like some house from marek hemmen, claude von stroke, julio bachmore etc but some of it sounds like gay strip club music and also some breaks like stanton warriors and assassin beats.
